Closing a year of Canada 150 celebrations, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra\u2019s (TSO) Interim Executive Director Gary Hanson travelled to Ottawa yesterday to present a custom-made book and CD comprising works commissioned as part of the Canada Mosaic project to the Minister of Heritage, M\u00e9lanie Joly.<\/p>\n

The book and CD were presented to the minister to thank her for her support towards the historic initiative. Sixteen Sesquie composers were also present and signed the book, as\u00a0Joly graciously accepted it.<\/p>\n

The year-long initiative was one of the largest endeavours in the TSO\u2019s history, and saw the orchestra commission and present 40 short orchestral works (Sesquies) written by composers from across the country. The pieces were also performed by orchestras from every province across Canada, as well as the Yukon and Northwest Territories.<\/p>\n

TSO received a total of $7.5 million<\/a> of the $17.5 million-dollar fund earmarked to help fund community events surrounding a national musical celebration in honour\u00a0of Canada\u2019s 150th birthday.<\/p>\n

The book of Sesquie scores and CD will be added to the collection of the Library & Archives Canada.<\/p>\n
