Canada\u2019s premiere opera\/ballet company Opera Atelier has announced the 2018\u201319 season featuring two French Baroque operas: Charpentier\u2019s Act\u00e9on and Rameau\u2019s Pygmalion. The double-bill will tour to the Palace of Versailles (for the fifth time) and to the US in a to-be-announced venue.<\/p>\n

Most notably, Soprano Measha Brueggergosman will return to Opera Atelier to star as Elettra in Mozart\u2019s Idomeneo (Apr. 4 \u2013 13, 2019). She will join Tenor Colin Ainsworth (named Opera Atelier\u2019s first Artist in Residence for 2018-2019) in both title roles with rising stars Wallis Giunta (Idamante), Meghan Lindsay (Ilia), Olivier Laquerre (Arbace), Douglas Williams (Neptune), and Bradley Christensen (Priest). The opera will be sung in the original Italian with English Subtitles.<\/p>\n

Along with the double-bill, Opera Atelier has commisioned a new work for solo baroque violin and contemporary dance, entitled Inception. Following the evening\u2019s theme of metamorphosis, Edwin Huizinga (violin) and Tyler Gledhill (dancer) will seek to transform the performance space as an overture to Pygmalion.<\/p>\n

Casting for the French language Pygmalion includes Colin Ainsworth in both title roles, alongside Mireille Asselin (Diana & Amour), Allyson McHardy (Juno & C\u00e9phise), Jesse Blumberg, Christopher Enns, Meghan Lindsay, Cynthia Smithers and Anna Sharpe.<\/p>\n
