A few times a month, Ludwig Van poses 60 questions to various artists who have made a mark on Toronto\u2019s music scene. Each artist picks and chooses, with a minimum response of 20.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Steven Reineke<\/strong> has established himself as one of the world’s leading conductors of orchestral pops repertoire. He is the Music Director of the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Principal Pops Conductor of the Houston Symphony and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n

On stage, he has collaborated with artists including Common, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Sutton Foster, Megan Hilty, Cheyenne Jackson, Wayne Brady, Peter Frampton, and Ben Folds.<\/p>\n

Snake Alley in Taipei, Taiwan<\/p>\n

What did you major in as an undergraduate?<\/h3>\n

Trumpet Performance and Music Composition<\/p>\n

The strangest talent that you possess?<\/h3>\n

Apparently, this would be the fact that when I hear music I also see it in my head visually and can write it down on paper for each instrument of the orchestra to play and reproduce.<\/p>\n

The different career path that you could have gone on?<\/h3>\n

Geologist or National Park ranger<\/p>\n

Your ancestry?<\/h3>\n

Bavarian and Austrian<\/p>\n

Television show that you could tolerate re-runs of?<\/h3>\n

ANY Law and Order<\/p>\n

Your major character flaw?<\/h3>\n

Stubbornness. I\u2019m a creature of habit and too stuck in my ways.<\/p>\n

The character flaw in others that you can\u2019t abide?<\/h3>\n

Ignorance. Not stupidity, but rather intolerance to not even try to understand another person\u2019s life or point of view because you don\u2019t necessarily agree with it.<\/p>\n

What is the best thing about your work?<\/h3>\n

Seeing and hearing audience members\u2019 reactions in real time to what my collaborators and I are doing onstage.<\/p>\n

What musical instrument do you secretly long to play?<\/h3>\n

The Uilleann pipes. You might have to Google what those are but I LOVE them!<\/p>\n

What sport did you give up and why?<\/h3>\n

Soccer, because I was terrible at it.<\/p>\n

What is the game that you\u2019re best at?<\/h3>\n

Do crossword puzzles count as a game? I\u2019m a crossword junkie.<\/p>\n

If you had a motto, what would it be?<\/h3>\n

Love who you love.<\/p>\n
