As part of the grand prize, Hong receives $25,000 plus performance engagements \u2013 a recital at the Bon Pasteur Historic Chapel, as well as a concerto performance with the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra. In total, over $44,000 in prizes was awarded to some of Quebec\u2019s top classical music talents yesterday evening.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to Musical Toronto, Hong wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s my greatest honour to be awarded the Prix d\u2019Europe 2017, not only is it a great experience overall, but I got to play in beautiful halls and pianos and Chapelle Bon-Pasteur and Salle Bourgie.\u201d For the pianist who will pursue a Master\u2019s degree at the Guildhall School in September, \u201cPrix d\u2019Europe has made my dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception in 1911, the Competition has provided scholarships to young musicians on a yearly basis, except in 1971. Should a musician win the $25,000 grand prize, the amount is intended to help finance their music studies beyond Quebec, notably in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners are:<\/p>\n<p>Second Prize ($5,000): <strong>Antoine Malette-Ch\u00e9nier (harp);<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Third Prize ($3,000): <strong>Hugo Laporte (baritone); \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fourth Prize ($2,500): <strong>Stephanie Morin (flute)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fernand Lindsay Composition Prize ($10,000; biennial): <strong>Charles-Antoine Fr\u00e9chette<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John Newmark Prize ($4,000) for exceptional musicality:<strong> Antoine Malette-Ch\u00e9nier (harp)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>B\u00e9atrice Kennedy Bourbeau Prize ($2,000) awarded to an instrumentalist for best performance of a work, across all musical periods: <strong>No\u00e9mie Raymond-Friset (cello) and Elizabeth Skinner (violin)<\/strong> ($1,000 each)<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Paul Sevilla Prize ($2,000) for a piano performance of a piece from a predetermined list: <strong>F\u00e9lix Marquis and Thierry Montpetit<\/strong> ($1,000 each)<\/p>\n<p>Claire Charbonneau Clerk Prize ($1,000) for an exceptional singer or pianist: <strong>Pierre-Andr\u00e9 Doucet (piano)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Monik Grenier Prize ($1,000) for best piano performance of a Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois work: <strong>F\u00e9lix Marquis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lied and M\u00e9lodie Prize\u00a0($1,000) for best performance of a complete set of m\u00e9lodies, lieder or art songs: <strong>Hugo Laporte (baritone)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Guy Soucie Prize ($1,000) for best performance of a Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois work: <strong>David Therrien-Brongo (percussion) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canadian Music Centre (Quebec chapter) Prize ($500) for best performance of a Canadian work: <strong>Gabriel Trottier (horn)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over its 106 editions, laureates of the Prix d\u2019Europe include Jacques H\u00e9tu, Bruno Laplante, Karen Quinton, Jean Saulnier, Pascale Gigu\u00e8re, St\u00e9phan Sylvestre, Wonny Song, Charles Richard-Hamelin, and Xiaoyu Liu.
