A retreat from her last big-band album <em>Metals<\/em> (2011), Pleasure features only Feist and Mocky, the Canadian jazz artist. She described the intimate nature of her new album in a recent interview, saying the album is \u201cmore like a pencil drawing than a full, expensive watercolour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Feist has been known for her soulfully playful albums since her 2004 indie breakout <em>Let it Die<\/em>, with its boppy \u201cMushaboom\u201d and \u201cGatekeeper\u201d atop her minimalist acoustic guitar accompaniments. She rose to further acclaim with her 2007 album <em>The Reminder<\/em>, with hits like \u201c1234,\u201d which took Feist into the mainstream, and \u201cMy Moon My Man.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h66Lvzlj1Uk?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>In the title track from <em>Pleasure<\/em>, which Feist released in advance of the album\u2019s full release on April 28th, Feist\u2019s percussive and soulful vocals recall her early albums, with a steady beat and a sparse voice and guitar-based texture. Anyone who attended a Feist show in the 2000\u2019s remembers her trick of recording her voice live and looping the vocals, singing backup to herself in harmony and counterpoint. She reprises this in \u201cPleasure,\u201d as the song crescendoes into a culmination of ecstatic female pop vocals.<\/p>\n<p>In Feist\u2019s interview with Zane Lowe for Apple, she explained that her and Mocky\u2019s motto for making <em>Pleasure<\/em> was, \u201chow to hit what and how hard.\u201d The title track of Pleasure with its constant evolving and building, is a thrilling, dance-worthy exploration of this motto.
