Sly and Duncan-Brown are McGill University graduates, while Paquin’s academic credits include a Masters degree from Université de Montréal.

Sly is one of Canada’s most promising young voices. His growing list of accompliahments includes having won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions last year. He had a small role in the Canadian Opera Company’s production of Iphigénie en Tauride early this season.

Radio-Canada is broadcasting the concerts live on its Espace-musique chain (heard on 90.3 FM in Toronto and environs), as well as offering live streaming on the web.

For all the details, as well as a full list of finalists and their performance times, click here.

UPDATE:

In an effective lesson on why I should’t post words here as my eyes are closing before bed, I received a note from Canadian Opera Company spokesperson Claudine Domingue, who reminds me that Sly was a member of the COC Ensemble Studio last season, and had roles in multiple operas.

Canadian Childrens Opera Chorus artistic director Ann Cooper Gay also corrected me me:

“Emily Duncan-Brown does, indeed, have Toronto roots because she was my star soprano my first year at the CCOC (2000-2001). We toured “The Snow Queen” to Europe and she sang the lead. Her younger sister was also in the choir and had a beautiful voice, too. Emily toured with Cirque for awhile and then went to McGill. She headed to the States and I heard her sing Violetta and I felt she was really going to go places. She placed 1st in the Met Eastern regionals and she was in the call backs for the COC Ensemble.

John Terauds

The Montreal International Voice Competition announced its 2012 finalists tonight.
