They pick and choose. The minimum response is 20 answers. A kind of Rorschach personality test, if you will.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>JUNO Award-winning composer <a href=\"http:\/\/vivianfung.ca\/\">Vivian Fung<\/a> has a talent for combining multiple genres and styles into large-scale works that live and breath as reflections of her multicultural background. A frequent visitor to Toronto, her works have been performed all over the world. Recently, her <em>Violin Concerto No. 2<\/em> was commissioned and premiered in February 2015 by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Jonathan Crow.<\/p>\n<h3>What are three things about Toronto that make you want to live here?<\/h3>\n<p>Visiting with relatives (I have lots of relatives here), the FOOD, my musician friends that I have come to know over the years.<\/p>\n<h3>Default drink\/cocktail of choice?<\/h3>\n<p>Any mocktail, virgin drink.\u00a0 I have had these strange hallucinations when I consume alcohol, probably allergic.\u00a0 I\u2019m actually writing a piece about it soon.\u00a0 I\u2019m what you call a cheap date.<\/p>\n<h3>Your favorite sound?<\/h3>\n<p>My son Julian\u2019s voice (he\u2019s 19 months old as of writing this).<\/p>\n<h3>Your favourite smells?<\/h3>\n<p>The waft of freshly baked bread \u2013 when I was living in NY, we lived close to a bakery in Jackson Heights.<\/p>\n<h3>The dumbest thing that you\u2019ve ever done to your hair?<\/h3>\n<p>The 80s over-fizzed perm.\u00a0 If you are Asian and ever burnt your hair from a perm, you\u2019ll know what I mean.<\/p>\n<h3>The three books that you read that made an impact on you in your formative years?<\/h3>\n<p><em>Letters to a Young Poet<\/em>, Rilke<br \/>\n<em>The Unanswered Question<\/em>, Bernstein<br \/>\n<em>Poetics of Music<\/em>, Stravinsky<\/p>\n<h3>Where was the last place you traveled to for work or pleasure?<\/h3>\n<p>New York.<\/p>\n<h3>Where did you go to school?<\/h3>\n<p>The Juilliard School.<\/p>\n<h3>What did you major in as an undergraduate?<\/h3>\n<p>Music Composition with a minor in piano.<\/p>\n<h3>Your ancestry?<\/h3>\n<p>Chinese.<\/p>\n<h3>Your major character flaw?<\/h3>\n<p>Impatience.<\/p>\n<h3>The character flaw in others that you can\u2019t abide?<\/h3>\n<p>Impatience.<\/p>\n<h3>What is the best thing about your work?<\/h3>\n<p>Solitude.<\/p>\n<h3>What is the worst thing about your work?<\/h3>\n<p>Solitude.<\/p>\n<h3>What are you listening to as you answer these questions?<\/h3>\n<p>My son running and playing upstairs.<\/p>\n<h3>What musical instrument do you secretly long to play?<\/h3>\n<p>Percussion so I can bang out all my aggressions and play with all sorts of toys.<\/p>\n<h3>Have you ever fired a gun? If so, what were the circumstances?<\/h3>\n<p>NO!<\/p>\n<h3>The strangest road you\u2019ve ever travelled?<\/h3>\n<p>Travelling the back dirt roads in Yunnan province, China where I was researching music and culture of minority groups there.
