A new TedxToronto video has surfaced this morning featuring coaches\u00a0and singers from the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio<\/a> demonstrating a how they train opera singers for the immense challenges\u00a0of opera singing.<\/p>\n

“Opera, It’s the largest known art that is known to man… with an emphasis on the limitless potential and power of the human voice,” says Liz Upchurch, pianist, vocal coach, and the Head of the COC Ensemble Studio in the introduction of Ted talk which took place on\u00a0October 27, 2016.<\/p>\n

In the video, they outline the teaching philosophy of the COC Ensemble Studio which uses a unique technique that integrates the body mechanics of science, with the high standards of artistry required to be a opera singer. In a highly atypical approach, it involves having three coaches (Liz Upchurch, Jennifer Swan, and Wendy Nielsen \u2013 “the triple threat”)\u00a0work with singers simultaneously.<\/p>\n

Techniques are demonstrated by soprano Danika Lor\u00e8n and baritone Iain MacNeil.<\/p>\n
