Musical Toronto\u2019s weekly Critic\u2019s Picks are a fully curated list of some of the best concerts happening now through the end of the week. This is not to say we are the provocateurs of taste, but simply seek to provide a good weekly summary. For the third week in a row, Toronto audiences can look forward to the opening of a new opera production. This week it\u2019s the unveiling of Purcell\u2019s masterpiece, Dido and Aeneas<\/em>, by Opera Atelier (Oct. 20 \u2013 29<\/a><\/span>). It stars mezzo Wallis Giunta and tenor Christopher Enns in the title roles. Meanwhile, COC\u2019s blockbuster hit Norma<\/a><\/span><\/em>, and the strikingly re-imagined Ariodante<\/a><\/span><\/em> continue. If you prefer your opera at the movies, the Met in HD is presenting Don Giovanni (Oct. 22<\/a>) at selected Cineplex locations. The flamboyant Chinese pianist Lang Lang<\/a><\/span> is in town for RCM\u2019s Season Gala. There are many orchestra events this week. Attila Glatz, the impresario who brings us the annual Bravissimo and Salute to Vienna, presents a double-bill of Mozart Requiem and Bach Magnificat (Oct. 22<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n

Tuesday 18<\/h3>\n

COC<\/span> |\u00a0Norma<\/em> at the Four Seasons Centre. 7:30 p.m. $50\u2013375 (Repeats Oct. 21 and 23)<\/p>\n

COC\u2019s Norma<\/em> stars soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, tenor Russell Thomas, mezzo Isabel Leonard, and bass Dimitry Ivashchenko, conducted by Stephen Lord. This performance is nearly sold out, but do call for returns. Repeats Oct. 21 and 23. \u00a0Details, here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

RCM<\/span>\u00a0| Gala: An Evening with Lang Lang at Koerner Hall. 8 p.m. SOLD OUT<\/p>\n

Opera Atelier<\/span>\u00a0| Dido and Aeneas\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>at the Elgin Theatre. 7:30 p.m. $39\u2013194<\/p>\n
