With courses offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening, you’re sure to find something in our selection of offerings that sparks your curiosity and fits your schedule!<\/p>\n Learn about the history, the music, and the sublime and sublimely ridiculous elements that make opera so fabulous in this interactive course. Examine what music contributes to a movie, with a focus on the practices of Hollywood producers in the 20th century, beginning with silent films and moving through the classic scores of the 1930s, to our own time. Join us for this illuminating journey into operatic history and enhance your experience of the operas scheduled to be performed in Toronto this spring. Through lectures, discussion and performance, you’ll come away from this course with strategies to enjoy jazz in a deeper and more meaningful way. Using Thomas Coryat’s 1608 guidebook and accounts of music on his travels, we will follow in his footsteps, investigating the colourful and sumptuous instrumental and vocal music he would have heard in homes, courts, cities and churches on his way to Venice and back again. Explore Romantic chamber music of 19th-Century Germany with members of our RCM community, featuring in-class performances of violin, cello and piano. Explore The Creation<\/em>, Haydn’s powerful musical depiction of the creation of the world, from nothing through sun, moon, plants and animals, to Adam and Eve. Delve into the music from the end of the 19th century: Post-Romanticism and then Expressionism in Germany, Impressionism in France, and Primitivism in Russia. Through listening, lecture, discussion and the use of images, we’ll explore the music, composers and musical life of Baroque Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Scotland, Scandinavia and Russia. Join Jamie Stager as he explores the music and musicians coming to Toronto this summer for the TD Toronto Jazz Festival! This course includes engaging lectures and a special in-class discussion with Josh Grossman, Artistic Director of Toronto Downtown Jazz. Delve into the topic and music of this summer’s TSMF, with background, history and insights into the composers, music and musicians, enhancing your overall 2016 TSMF experience.
