{"id":34069,"date":"2016-02-11T17:36:11","date_gmt":"2016-02-11T22:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/?p=34069"},"modified":"2016-02-12T08:32:11","modified_gmt":"2016-02-12T13:32:11","slug":"the-scoop-soundstreams-and-massey-hall-announce-upcoming-steve-reich-line-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2016\/02\/11\/the-scoop-soundstreams-and-massey-hall-announce-upcoming-steve-reich-line-up\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SCOOP | Soundstreams And Massey Hall Announce Steve Reich Line-Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_34072\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34072\" style=\"width: 770px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34072\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/02\/SteveReich.jpg\" alt=\"Steve Reich\" width=\"770\" height=\"577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/02\/SteveReich.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/02\/SteveReich-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34072\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steve Reich at 80<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Soundstreams and Massey Hall have announced the artists who will be joining Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steve Reich on April 14, 2016, at Massey Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Reich will celebrate his 80th birthday alongside Toronto&#8217;s best new music performers, including three original members of the Steve Reich Ensemble: Steve Reich, Russell Hartenberger and Bob Becker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to bring Steve Reich back to Toronto for the third time in a decade,\u201d says Lawrence Cherney, Soundstreams Artistic Director. \u201cArguably the world\u2019s most influential living composer&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The concert will include a rare onstage appearance by Reich with percussionist Hartenberger to perform &#8220;Clapping Music&#8221; (1972).<\/p>\n<p>Other works include a performance of Reich&#8217;s &#8220;Tehillim&#8221; (1981) conducted by Leslie Dala and featuring Canadian sopranos Lesley Bouza, Michelle DeBoer and Carla Huhtanen, as well as alto Laura Pudwell.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will conclude with a performance of &#8220;Music for 18 Musicians&#8221; (1976) highlighted with Vancouver-based violinist Jesse Zubot, clarinetist Lori Freedman, acclaimed jazz pianist Tania Gill, and contemporary pianist Gregory Oh.
