\"\"<\/a>It’s not every year that Christmas and Chanukah fall so close to one another. So, in the spirit of sharing — and wanting to get away from the combination of crowds and Christmas music overload in public spaces — here an unseasonal suggestion for tonight (Dec. 17): intimate cabaret.<\/p>\n

The Green Door, about halfway between Dundas and Queen Sts, at 100A Ossington Ave., hosts a nicely matched pair of talents: singer Theresa Tova<\/a>\u00a0(left) and pianist Fern Lindzon<\/a> in a Christmas- and Chanukah-themed show.<\/p>\n

I have no idea what the two are up to tonight, but they’re pros, so whatever they do should come with a professional polish.<\/p>\n

Getting to the Lower Ossington Theatre is fun in and of itself. This section of Ossington has several hip shops, galleries and restaurants to visit. For me, the street’s biggest attraction is Ideal Coffee, which roasts its own.<\/p>\n

If you need a sample, here is Lindzon with her jazz sextet —\u00a0Quinsin Nachoff, clarinet and sax;\u00a0Aleksandar Gajic, violin;\u00a0Milos Popovic, accordion;\u00a0Rob Clutton, bass; and\u00a0Nick Fraser, drums —\u00a0performing live accompaniment composed by Lindzon to Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Junior<\/em> at the TIFF Lightbox a year ago, followed by Tova in full Yiddish flight, accompanied by Matt Herskowitz, at a festival in Warsaw:<\/p>\n
