Sinfonia Toronto<\/b><\/a><\/span> will open its 17th season with a concert titled Virtuosity<\/b><\/span><\/a> featuring the extraordinary Canadian pianist Dmitri Levkovich <\/b><\/span><\/a>on Saturday, October 24, 8 pm. The orchestra\u2019s Music Director Nurhan Arman<\/b><\/span><\/a> will step onto the podium in George Weston Recital Hall<\/b> at the Toronto Centre for the Arts to conduct a program ranging from Beethoven\u2019s first piano concerto to the North American premiere of Canadian composer Airat Ichmouratov\u2019s brilliant Chamber Symphony No. 4. Mr. Levkovich will be heard in Beethoven’s ground breaking first piano concerto. It will be performed in a chamber version created by the 19th-century German composer Vincenz Lachner.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the program Nurhan Arman said: \u201cI am thrilled to be conducting this program with just two amazing and contrasting works. Pianist Dmitri Levkovich had an incredibly successful collaboration with us three seasons ago, so I wanted to invite him again. Montreal composer Ichmouratov is a fascinating talent. Last season when we premiered his Chamber Symphony No. 3 audience couldn\u2019t get enough of it and were asking for more works by him. So now we\u2019ll be playing the North American premiere of this brilliant Symphony\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dmitri Levkovich\u2019s performances have taken him to every continent except Africa. He has appeared at many of the world\u2019s most prestigious concert halls and festivals including the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Carnegie Hall in New York and Beijing\u2019s National Centre for the Performing Arts. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous ensembles, among them the Cleveland Orchestra, the Utah Symphony, Sinfonia Toronto, the China National Orchestra and the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Portugal. Many of his performances have been broadcast on television and radio.<\/p>\n

Now in its 17th<\/span> season, Sinfonia Toronto<\/b> has toured in the United States and twice in Europe, receiving glowing reviews. It has released four CD\u2019s, including a JUNO Award winner, and performs in many Ontario cities. Its extensive repertoire includes all the major string orchestra works of the 18th<\/span> through 21st<\/span> centuries, and it has premiered many new works. Under the baton of Nurhan Arman<\/b>, the orchestra\u2019s performances present outstanding international guest artists and prominent Canadian musicians.<\/p>\n

Nurhan Arman<\/b> has conducted throughout Europe, Asia, South America, Canada and the United States, regularly returning tomany orchestras in Europe. Among the<\/span> orchestras Maestro Arman has conducted are the Moscow Philharmonic, Deutsches Kammerorchester Frankfurt, Filarmonica Italiana, St. Petersburg State Hermitage Orchestra, Orchestre Regional d\u2019Ile de France, Hungarian Symphony, Milano Classica and Belgrade Philharmonic.<\/p>\n

Acclaimed as \u201ca world-class ensemble\u201d, Sinfonia Toronto is one of Canada\u2019s finest chamber orchestras. Its repertoire includes all the major works for string orchestra from baroque to contemporary, and it has premiered many new works. It presents its concerts two of the finest concert halls of Toronto: at the CBC\u2019s Glenn Gould Studio, where many of its concerts have been recorded for national broadcast and in the George Weston Recital Hall in North York. The orchestra has recorded for its label, Marquis Classics EMI, Cambria and Analekta on iTunes.<\/p>\n

Sinfonia Toronto consists of thirteen virtuoso strings. They perform standing, blending each musician\u2019s soloistic energy and passion into a brilliant ensemble style under Nurhan Arman\u2019s inspired direction. The orchestra has toured in Europe twice, regularly travels to other Ontario cities and performs many outreach concerts.<\/p>\n

During the 2014-15 season, Sinfonia Toronto will perform four Masterpiece Series <\/i>concerts in Glenn Gould Studio (250 Front Street, West) and three concerts in Toronto Centre for the Arts (5040 Yonge St.). The orchestra concertizes in other Ontario centres, broadcasts on CBC and performs a number of community outreach concerts. Since 2009, Sinfonia Toronto has been serving as the orchestra-in-residence of Barrie\u2019s Colours of Music Festival.<\/p>\n
