Wednesday 27<\/h3>\n

Tafelmusik |<\/span> Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Coronation Anthems<\/em> at the Trinity St. Paul’s Centre, Jeanne Lamon Hall. 7:00 p.m. $15-79 (Repeats May 28-31)<\/p>\n

Tafelmusik closes their 2014-15 season this week on a joyous note with\u00a0Vivaldi\u2019s exultant Gloria<\/em> and Handel’s astounding Coronation Anthems<\/em>. Visit the TSO this Wednesday for a glittering show featuring acclaimed Conductor Laureate Sir Andrew Davis. They will be reproducing the same programme performed during TSO’s groundbreaking 1978 visit to China \u2013 with Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition<\/em> (arr. Ravel); Davis: La Serenissima<\/em>; Liszt: Piano Concerto No.1<\/em>; Berlioz: Le Corsaire<\/em>. Includes a pre-concert performance with TSO Chamber Soloists at 6:45. | DETAILS<\/a><\/p>\n

Tapestry Opera\/Scottish Opera |<\/span> M’dea Undone<\/em> at the Holcim Gallery, Evergreen Brickworks 8:30 p.m. $50-75 (Repeats May 28-29).<\/p>\n

Indie opera fans are in for something very special this week. Tapestry Opera have teamed up with Scottish Opera to present M’dea Undone:<\/em> a gripping tale by Dora Award-winning writer Marjorie Chan. You\u2019ll hear lush orchestral and electronic soundscapes by Scottish composer John Harris, and paired with a stellar cast: (Lauren Segal as M’dea, Peter Barrett as Jason, James McLean as the President, and Jacqueline Woodley as Dahlia.) A highlight is Toronto Summer Music Festival, who will be doing a sneak peak preview concert at the Four Seasons as part of their free noon hour shows. Yo-Yo Ma returns to Toronto this week to perform along side the TSO and the Toronto Children\u2019s Chorus under the baton of \u00a0Sir Andrew Davis. It\u2019s an interesting program that includes a world premi\u00e8re\/TSO Commission of E. Frazier Davis: The Stolen Child for Children\u2019s Chorus and Orchestra<\/em>. Westwood Concerts [Ilana Waniuk (violin), Erika Nielsen (cello), Michael Westwood, (clarinet), Gregory Millar (piano)] present a concerts of classics from the 19th<\/sup> and 20th<\/sup>-centuries including Beethoven Trio Op 11<\/em> for clarinet, cello and piano and Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time<\/em>. | DETAILS<\/a><\/p>\n

Toronto Masque Theatre |<\/span> The Lesson of Da Ji in Concert<\/em> at the Music Gallery. 8:00 p.m. $30<\/p>\n

The Lesson of Da Ji<\/em> has been lauded by critics as a \u201ccracking good story and fascinating music that blends Chinese, Baroque, and other Western forms \u2013 Paula Citron, Opera Canada. Written by Marjorie Chan with music by Alice Ping Yee Ho, it won the 2013 Dora Mavor Moore for outstanding new opera. It will be performed at the Music Gallery for one night only. Monday\u2019s are always fairly light on concerts, but tonight the Associates of the TSO aim to change that with their season finale titled: From Trio to Tango<\/em>. They\u2019ll take the stage at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre for a well-rounded program including Beethoven\u2019s Serenade<\/em>, Piazzolla\u2019s Histoire du Tango<\/em>, Shinohara\u2019s Kassouga<\/em>, Caliendo\u2019s Sincerita, Faur\u00e9\u2019s Apr\u00e8s un r\u00eave,<\/em> and others. | DETAILS<\/a><\/p>\n

This afternoon is all about chamber music with V\u00e9ronique Mathieu, violin and Stephanie Chua, piano. Against The Grain Theatre |<\/span> Death & Desire<\/em> at Neubacher Shor Contemporary. 8:00 p.m. $35-70 (Repeats June 3-5)<\/p>\n

Against The Grain Theatre is one of the hottest indie opera company\u2019s in the country \u2013 and for good reason. \u00a0Tonight marks the opening of their latest project Death & Desire \u2013 an <\/em>intimate and intriguing new double-bill brings together two of Canada\u2019s most engaging talents \u2014 bass-baritone Stephen Hegedus and mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szab\u00f3. \u00a0They will perform two of the most compelling song cycles ever written: Franz Schubert\u2019s Die sch\u00f6ne M\u00fcllerin<\/em> and Olivier Messiaen\u2019s Harawi<\/em>.
