Conductor Nathan Brock joins Hamburg State Opera.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Announced late yesterday, Toronto-based maestro Nathan Brock<\/a> will be heading to Hamburg Germany, as the newest incumbent of\u00a0the conducting staff at the\u00a0Hamburg State Opera<\/a> \u2013 one of the oldest public opera houses in the world.<\/p>\n

According to the press release, the two-year position begins in June and will include his conducting performances of Donizetti\u2019s L<\/em>\u2019Elisir d\u2019Amore, <\/em>Humperdinck\u2019s H\u00e4nsel und Gretel, <\/em>Rossini\u2019s Il Barbiere di Siviglia <\/em>and Britten\u2019s The Little Sweep.\u00a0<\/em>He is also scheduled to conduct ballets\u00a0Eleonora Duse, Turangalila <\/em>and Giselle<\/em> with acclaimed choreographer John Neumeier.<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting to work in this theatre, with its storied tradition, will be a completely immersive experience \u2013 a huge bonus and an enormous challenge,” Brock stated. “And the thought of living in the city where Brahms grew up and where Mahler was the last kapellmeister of the opera house is truly inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Further\u00a0duties\u00a0include\u00a0assisting conductor Kent Nagano, (who will also be\u00a0beginning his tenure of the Hamburg State Opera as\u00a0General Music Director and Chief Conductor \u00a0this season) for productions of Les Troyens, Elektra, Pell\u00e9as et M\u00e9lisande, Tristan und Isolde <\/em>and Stilles Meer.<\/em><\/p>\n

Brock had been in Toronto for the past year with the Glenn Gould School orchestra at the Royal Conservatory and also with the Jeunesses Musicales du Canada for their production of Puccini\u2019s La Boh\u00e8me<\/em>.\u00a0Before that, he was assistant conductor and subsequent resident conductor at the Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al for five years.<\/p>\n
