Luminato has announced a major boon to Toronto\u2019s music community as they bring the acclaimed Unsound Festival to Toronto for the first time. The festival which began in Krakow, has become well-known for producing events in abandoned buildings and bringing them back to life.<\/p>\n

They have chosen the old Hearn Generating Station to\u00a0house headlining stars from the classical, electronic and experimental music worlds. The building has been decommissioned since 1983, and sits empty in the Toronto Port Lands. Luminato has used the building once before in June 2014, for a fundraising gala event and Yves Saint Laurent Opening Night Party.<\/p>\n

Planned events include the\u00a0Ephemera<\/a> project, which is described as the bringing together of scent and sound: olfactory compositions based on musical resonances and reverberations. It unites artist Geza Schoen and innovative lighting design by Marcel Weber aka MFO (Berlin).<\/p>\n

American composer Morton Subotnick will also perform his 1967 two-part electronic work, \u201cSilver Apples Of The Moon.\u201d Stars of the Lid, Ben Frost and Helena Hauff are also scheduled.<\/p>\n

In addition to R. Murray Schafer\u2019s Apocalypsis<\/a>, David Byrne\u2019s Contemporary Color<\/a>, (with Nico Muhly, St. Vincent, and Nelly Furtato), and The TSO\u2019s Free Outdoor Concert<\/a>, it looks to be a very promising Luminato this year.<\/p>\n
