They will also throw\u00a0in some works by Haydn for good measure. | <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gryphontrio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">DETAILS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Royal Conservatory |<\/span> <\/strong>with <em>Christian Gerhaher, Baritone and Gerold Huber, Piano<\/em> at Koerner Hall. 8:00 p.m. $25-75<\/p>\n<p>Instead of wallowing in self-pity for our geographical life choices, we suggest embracing this seemingly endless winter with Schubert\u2019s <em>Winterreise<\/em> (Winter Journey), a song cycle setting of 24 poems by Wilhelm M\u00fcller. German baritone Christian Gerhaher has been called \u201cmusical god\u201d (The Telegraph), and is marvel to hear. Gerold Huber will be there too. | <a href=\"http:\/\/performance.rcmusic.ca\/event\/gerhaher_huber\" target=\"_blank\">DETAILS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Soundstreams<\/strong> |<\/span> <em>The Whisper Opera<\/em> at The Theatre Centre, 1115 Queen Street W. 8:00 p.m. $67.50 (repeats through the week; start times vary)<\/p>\n<p>One of the coolest tickets in town this week is the Canadian premiere of David Lang\u2019s <em>Whisper Opera, <\/em>featuring soprano Tony Arnold, and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). With only 52 seats\u00a0available for each show, this is going to be a very exclusive show\u00a0\u2013 but one well worth turning up for. | <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundstreams.ca\/The-Whisper-Opera\" target=\"_blank\">DETAILS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Friday 27<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Art of Time Ensemble<\/strong> |<\/span> <em>Magic and Loss: A Tribute to Lou Reed<\/em> at the Harbourfront Centre Theatre. 8:00 p.m. $10.<\/p>\n<p>Always finding interesting ways to present and explore music, the Art of Time Ensemble will present a program celebrating Lou Reed&#8217;s innovative and rebellious origins of rock and roll with artistic influences from multiple genres. You&#8217;ll see Canadian genre-busting singer and composer, Sarah Slean, as well as John Southworth, Margo Timmins, and Kevin Hearn. On the stage\u00a0will be the great violinist, Ruben Kosemyan \u2013 an Armenian born soloists now based in Canada. The concert includes Canadian premiere on Alan Hovhaness\u2019 (1911-2000): Piano Concerto <em>Lousadzak<\/em>. Kicking off the event is a\u00a0masterworks concert featuring Dai Fujikura\u2019s <em>Tocar y Luchar<\/em> George Benjamin\u2019s <em>A Mind of Winter<\/em>, Vivian Fung\u2019s Violin Concerto No.2, and Dutilleux\u2019s <em>M\u00e9taboles<\/em>. The main draw, however, is the astounding soprano Barbara Hannigan, who is quickly becoming one of the most important contemporary music specialist in the world. Griffiths will discuss his collaboration with Elliott Carter on opera <em>What Next?.<\/em> There will be door prizes and nourishment.
