Canadian Tenor, Radio Show Host, and now Voice Professor, Ben Heppner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Since announcing his retirement<\/a> from the stage last April, (due to “unreliability” in his voice), Canadian tenor, Ben Heppner seemed content\u00a0with maintaining his role as announcer for CBC II’s radio program \u201cBackstage with Ben Heppner\u201d. But the question remained \u2013\u00a0would he ever\u00a0sing again?<\/p>\n

Besides a\u00a0role for the upcoming Mirvish production of the musical\u00a0Titanic<\/em>\u00a0by composer, Maury Yeston this coming\u00a0\u00a0May 20, 2015 at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto, his future seemed uncertain.<\/p>\n

But in a\u00a0surprising announcement<\/a> via McGill\u2019s The Schulich School of Music Facebook page late yesterday afternoon, Heppner can now add the title of “Professor” to his illustrious resume.<\/p>\n

…The Schulich School of Music is thrilled to announce the appointment of legendary Canadian tenor Ben Heppner to our voice faculty for the academic year 2015-16. One of Canada\u2019s greatest artists, while at Schulich Mr. Heppner will teach over a dozen voice students and contribute immensely to the rich and dynamic life of the Voice Area at the School. Mr. Heppner has received acclaim on the world\u2019s most prestigious opera stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala, and the Vienna State Opera.We are extremely proud of the excellence of the voice and opera programs at McGill, and are delighted that someone as inspiring, experienced, and generous as Ben Heppner is joining our already stellar team.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ben Heppner responded by stating, \u201cSomething new coming in my life!! Let’s go McGill.\u201d<\/p>\n

The academic engagement\u00a0represents an opportunity for the eminent tenor\u00a0to use\u00a0his talents towards guiding future voices of Canadian opera.<\/p>\n

Ben Heppner joins an already impressive list of notable opera singers at The Schulich School of Music, including tenor Stefano Algieri,\u00a0baritone\u00a0Sanford Sylvan, soprano\u00a0Joanne Kolomyjec, and master voice coach, Patrick Hansen.<\/p>\n

Heppner begins teaching in\u00a0the 2015-2016 academic year.<\/p>\n
