Are you an advanced amateur musician looking for an opportunity to connect with other musicians who share your passion? \u00a0The TSM Community Academy invites you to play and sing for pleasure and push your abilities to a new level, while spending a week with artists of the Toronto Summer Music Festival. \u00a0The Community Academy offers advanced amateur musicians a unique opportunity to hone their skills and take part in Toronto\u2019s premier summer classical music festival. \u00a0Participants will enjoy access to all mainstage TSM Festival Concerts, lectures, and events (Aug 2-9) and the program includes the possibility of a performance onstage at Walter Hall.<\/p>\n

Introducing 3 Programs for Adult Amateur Musicians<\/h2>\n

CHAMBER MUSIC with TSO Principals and Guests<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Immerse yourself in the world of chamber music! \u00a0 Participants will be placed in ensembles with some of the best musicians in the city for a week of intense music-making, coaching, and camaraderie. \u00a0Enjoy access to all mainstage TSM Festival Concerts, lectures, and events including the possibility of a performance on stage at Walter Hall.<\/p>\n

18-20 Participants (Strings, Wind Quintet, 2 pianists, open to individuals and pre-formed ensembles)<\/p>\n

PIANO MASTERCLASS with James Anagnoson<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A chance for advanced amateur pianists to perfect their repertoire for piano and revive rusty skills! \u00a0A one-week masterclass with James Anagnoson, Dean of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music. A program of daily classes, individual lessons and guest masterclasses. In addition, participants will be asked to prepare the secundo part of one piano 4-hand work to study and play with Mr. Anagnoson!<\/p>\n

CHAMBER CHOIR with Mathias Maute & Laura Pudwell<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Refresh your vocal skills and study one of the great works of choral literature in the intimacy of a chamber vocal ensemble. \u00a0Spend one-week rehearsing and preparing the Mozart Coronation Mass and the Bach Motet: Jesu, meine freude\u00a0with renowned choral conductor, virtuoso recorder player and composer, Mathias Maute. \u00a0Afternoon activities include voice-coaching and individual lessons with renowned soprano Laura Pudwell. \u00a0The week will culminate with a performance in Walter Hall.<\/p>\n

Who Can Apply<\/strong>
\nMust be over 18 years of age. \u00a0For advanced amateurs intent on perfecting their skills with a rigorous daily schedule of rehearsals, coachings, and masterclasses. \u00a0Pianists should have a minimum level of Grade 10 Royal Conservatory.<\/p>\n

\nPiano Masterclass: $750

\nTuition fees include Community Academy program plus tickets to all TSM Festival concerts August 2-9 ($250 value), daily lunch, and coffee. \u201cToronto Summer Music has become one of the city\u2019s most eagerly awaited summer cultural events, and I am thrilled to welcome audiences to our festival and academy where we create and foster connections between great artists and great music.\u201d says Douglas McNabney.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2014 TSMF featured an array of renowned Canadian and international artists including Emerson String Quartet, Sondra Radvanovsky and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in seven concerts in Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory and eleven concerts in Walter Hall at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music.\u00a0 The 2015 Festival will be announced in April 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0TSMF Academy<\/span><\/a>\u00a0offers instruction at the highest level to musicians on the threshold of professional careers through the\u00a0Chamber Music Institute\u00a0and the\u00a0Art of Song\u00a0programs. As part of the Festival, TSMF Fellows performed on stage along with Resident Artists of the festival in a series of Saturday concerts \u2013 TSMF Fellows and Mentors.<\/span><\/p>\n

2015 Academy Programs<\/span><\/del><\/h1>\n

The Chamber Music Institute (July 12 \u2013 August 8)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The Chamber Music Institute for piano and strings welcomes individuals and pre-formed ensembles for three weeks of intensive coaching sessions, rehearsals, and performances. The focus is on learning through performance where the fellows will perform alongside our guest artists as mentors. With an enrolment limited to 18, participating fellows work with a distinguished international faculty in an intimate, collegial atmosphere. Individual instrumentalists will be placed in chamber groups with at least one artist mentor per group.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Art of Song Program (July 12 \u2013 July 25)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

This program, for a small cohort of eight singers and four pianists, is devoted to the study and performance of Art Song. During this two-week session, participants study with all faculty members, voice and piano, thus receiving advice from a variety of musical traditions and perspectives. The session will also offer detailed study of text, diction, and action coaching. This year\u2019s mentors include the great Finnish Soprano,\u00a0Soile Isokoski<\/b>, Kammers\u00e4ngerin\u00a0of the Vienna State Opera, as well as\u00a0Martin Katz<\/b>, one of the world\u2019s most celebrated collaborative pianists. \u00a0Steven Philcox<\/b>\u00a0will be coordinating the program.<\/span><\/p>\n
