After presenting the idea\u00a0to Love, she jumped at the opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m playing it constantly. I\u2019m looking to do things that are different. I just finished a rock tour of Australia, and it was great, but I\u2019ve been doing that for a long time. I wanted to do something challenging,\u201d she told the Times.<\/p>\n<p>In regards to the work being called an &#8220;opera&#8221;,\u00a0Almond confessed he uses the term loosely.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen I say \u2018opera, I don\u2019t mean it\u2019s in an operatic style. I mean it in the sense that it\u2019s a group of songs that tell a story. I write musicals, I write plays and I write what I call opera, which I think of as a form that opens the minds of both the performers and the listeners.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The premise of <em>Kansas City Choir Boy<\/em>\u00a0is of a man and a woman who fall in love in the Midwest.
