Opera Atelier is a world leader in the rediscovery and revitalization of period opera and ballet, particularly works from the Baroque era. ORPHEUS & EURYDICE: BERLIOZ VERSION OF GLUCK\u2019S MASTERPIECE<\/b><\/p>\n

Opera Atelier\u2019s 2014-2015 season continues with the Berlioz version of Gluck\u2019s\u00a0Orpheus and Eurydice<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(April 9-18, 2015), a timeless love story based on the Greek myth.<\/p>\n

An expert in Gluck\u2019s work and a revered composer in his own right, Hector Berlioz drew from the earlier Italian and French incarnations of the opera in creating this 1859 version in which the role of Orpheus is scored for a female contralto.<\/p>\n

Opera Atelier is proud that Tafelmusik has agreed to be part of this groundbreaking project, which marks the orchestra\u2019s furthest foray into 19th<\/span>\u00a0century orchestration.<\/p>\n

Orpheus and Eurydice\u00a0<\/i>will star Canadian mezzo-soprano\u00a0Mireille Lebel\u00a0<\/span>as Orpheus \u2013 her first major role for Opera Atelier. The production will also feature Opera Atelier favourite\u00a0Peggy Kriha Dye\u00a0<\/i><\/span>as Eurydice and\u00a0Meghan Lindsay<\/span>\u00a0as Amour.\u00a0Orpheus and Eurydice\u00a0<\/i>is sung in French with English surtitles.<\/p>\n

VERSAILLES GALA<\/p>\n

The Versailles Gala is Opera Atelier\u2019s biggest and most lavish annual fundraising event.<\/p>\n

Join Toronto\u2019s cultural movers-and-shakers for an evening of performances, dinner, and live and silent auctions.<\/p>\n

Funds raised will be used to support Opera Atelier\u2019s international touring, as well as Opera Atelier\u2019s education and outreach programs, which have been offered free of charge since the company\u2019s inception.<\/p>\n
