Also includes Canadian composer Gilles Tremblay\u2019s recent <em>Les<\/em> <em>V\u00eapres de la Vierge<\/em> with Shannon Mercer, Choir 21, and two chamber orchestras (one made up of period instruments, the other contemporary) conducted by the Toronto Consort\u2019s David Fallis. Info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundstreams.ca\/Vespers\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Wednesday 26<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Toronto Symphony Orchestra<\/span> at Roy Thomson Hall. 8:00 p.m. $33\u2013145<\/p>\n<p>Tonight the TSO presents a program about orchestral innovation with <em>Stravinsky&#8217;s Petrouchka<\/em> and Pulcinella Suite, Haydn\u2019s Piano Concerto in D Hob.XVIII\/11, and Britten\u2019s Soir\u00e9es musicales (after Rossini). The great pianist Ingrid Fliter will be backed by visiting guest conductor Andrey Boreyko. Highly recommended. Elizabeth Reid is about do something about it in a fascinating concert of solo and amplified viola works by Barone, Healey, Jaeger, Olson; B\u00e1thory-Kitsz, Martin, Erik Nielsen, and Ross-Gunn. Info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicaltoronto.org\/datebook\/duality-one-violist-two-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Friday 28<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Toronto Bach Consort<\/span> at Runnymede United Church. 7:00 p.m. $25-60<\/p>\n<p>As Christmas inches closer and closer, so do the\u00a0many festivities celebrating the season across the city. For 20 years the Bach Consort has been dedicated to sharing the work of Bach with the city of Toronto. This year they will be performing J.S. Bach: Christmas Oratorio (Weihnachtsoratorium) BWV248 with a collection of musicians of the Toronto Symphony and Canadian Opera Company orchestras. Includes Mississauga Festival Chamber Choir and conductor Johannes Debus. More info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicaltoronto.org\/datebook\/toronto-bach-consort\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Leon Fleisher and the Royal Conservatory Orchestra at Koerner Hall. 8:00 p.m. $25-$55<\/p>\n<p>Leon Fleisher is a force to be reckoned with. At 86 years old, the pianist and pedagogue has indispensable in\u00a0guiding the next generation of musicians at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Fleicher will conduct the Royal Conservatory Orchestra in the program featuring Mozart\u2019s Symphony No.39, Walton\u2019s Partita for Orchestra, and Brahms\u2019 Symphony No.3. There will be a special Prelude Recital at 6:45. Listing info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicaltoronto.org\/datebook\/tallis-choir-purcells-messiah\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Toronto Symphony Orchestra<\/span> with <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Second City Comedy Theatre<\/span> at Roy Thomson Hall. 7:30 p.m. $29\u201399.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing with one of the most innovative TSO seasons in years, Toronto\u2019s premiere orchestra and Music Director Peter Oundjian\u00a0have teamed up with Second City. I can\u2019t say what they have in store, but you can expect some big laughs and an entertaining night. According to the press release, &#8220;This presentation includes adult language and situations and is intended for mature audiences.&#8221; Info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicaltoronto.org\/datebook\/tso-second-city-guide-to-the-symphony\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble<\/span> at Artscape Wychwood Barns Mainspace. 8:00 p.m. $25-35<\/p>\n<p>Carol Gimbel and the Music in the Barns Chamber Ensemble are back this week with a program featuring Beethoven\u2019s Piano Sonata \u201cMoonlight\u201d in c-sharp Op.27 No.2 (Sonata quasi una Fantasia), Debussy\u2019s Sonata for Violin and Piano in g L.140, and Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s Piano Quintet in A Op.81 B155. Includes a cash bar (booze!) and a post-concert reception (more booze!). Originally founded by Stuart Hamilton, Opera in Concert seeks to explore the voice in its purest form \u2013 sans sets, costumes and other distractions. They will perform de Falla two-act opera<em>, La Vida Breve<\/em>, with Isabel Bayrakdarian (soprano), Ernesto Ramirez (tenor), Jos\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez (piano), and Robert Cooper (conductor).
