Led by Artistic Director Andrew Burashko, Art of Time Ensemble transforms the way you experience music. The Ensemble fuses high art and popular culture in concerts that juxtapose the best of each genre. Art of Time entertains as it enlightens, revealing the universal qualities that lie at the heart of all great music, with the goal of attracting new and diverse audiences to the performing arts.<\/p>\n

Andrew Burashko formed Art of Time Ensemble in 1998 with the support of a small group of like-minded musicians and prominent figures in dance, theatre and other art forms, beginning with one-off concerts to small but enthusiastic audiences.<\/p>\n

Today, Art of Time works with the best Canadian artists in the performing arts, film and literature, and noteworthy international musicians.<\/p>\n

This includes authors Margaret Atwood and Michael Ondaatje; choreographers Peggy Baker, James Kudelka and David Earle; dancers Rebekah Rimsay, Michael Sean Marye, and Piotr Stanczyk; singers Madeleine Peyroux, Jackie Richardson, Steven Page and Sarah Slean; actors Tom McCamus, R. H. Thomson, Ted Dykstra, Lucy Peacock and Julian Richings; and filmmakers Peter Mettler and Tess Girard.<\/p>\n

Music and musicians are at the heart of Art of Time Ensemble; the ranks of our musicians are deep and their talent unmatched. Featured musicians include Branford Marsalis, Gavin Bryars, Jonathan Goldsmith, Rachel Mercer, Benjamin Bowman, Stephen Sitarski, Roman Borys, Steven Dann, Thomas Wiebe, Phil Dwyer, and Rob Piltch.<\/p>\n

In a revival of the collaboration that sold out in 2013, Art of Time and Madeleine Peyroux are taking a program of songs, hand-picked by Peyroux and arranged just for the occasion, on a tour of Ontario. The concert will feature thrilling and inventive mix of work, ranging from bluesman Robert Johnson and American songbook anchors Harold Arlen and the Gershwins, to Warren Zevon, Tom Waits and Billy Joel.<\/p>\n

Brahms\u2019 Intermezzi for solo piano set the stage for contrasting dance interpretations of the emotional and introspective music. Peggy Baker\u2019s early solo work is programmed with a new piece for eight dancers commissioned for Art of Time by James Kudelka.<\/p>\n

Canadian treasure Brent Carver is given free reign over the program for an evening of song. The Tony Award winner\u2019s exceptional range is reflected in a program of many genres, including the American songbook, music of the 1960s, musical theatre and peut-\u00eatre un peu de \u201cnouvelle chanson\u201d. Accompanied by a selection of our finest musicians, Brent will perform twelve songs arranged especially for this concert by a selection of the best composers and arrangers in Canada.<\/p>\n
