Our weekly Critic\u2019s Picks is a fully curated list of\u00a0some of the best concerts going on now through the end of the week. Of course this is not to say we are the provocateurs of taste, but simply strive to provide a good weekly summary. For a look at the full breadth of what\u2019s available in and around Toronto, check out the comprehensive concert listings from our friends at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewholenote.com\/index.php\/listings\/concertsgta\">Wholenote Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday 29<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Gryphon Trio<\/span> and mezzo-soprano <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Julie Nesrallah<\/span>, at University of Toronto\u2019s Walter Hall, 7 pm. $10-40<\/p>\n<p>To start the week, two-time Juno Award winning Gryphon Trio and mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah, will perform a program including Wright\u2019s <em>Letters to the Immortal Beloved<\/em>, Chan Ka Nin\u2019s <em>\u2026and the masks evoke\u2026,<\/em> and Tchaikovsky\u2019s Trio in a, Op.50. Full of abundantly romantic\u00a0sensibility, Wright\u2019s <em>Letters to the Immortal Beloved<\/em>\u00a0is a real treat. Info <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gryphontrio.com\/event\/092914\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday 30<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Soundstreams<\/span>: The Seasons, at Koerner Hall, 8 pm. $20-67.50<\/p>\n<p>Kudos to Soundstreams for the innovative programming lined up this year. This Tuesday, they will feature a series of works for string orchestra including, <em>Recomposed<\/em> by Max Richter | Vivaldi <em>The Four Seasons<\/em>, John Luther Adams\u2019 <em>Dream in White on White, <\/em>and <em>Mojave Dreaming<\/em> by Canadian composer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulfrehner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Frehner<\/a><em>. <\/em>For fans of larger scale contemporary music of the tuneful variety, this is a do-not-miss event. Free!<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of the bard\u2019s 450<sup>th<\/sup> birthday, the COC presents <em>Brush Up on your Shakespeare! <\/em>The University of Toronto\u2019s Opera Division will perform Arias and ensembles from operatic works inspired by some of Shakespeare\u2019s best known plays. The Women&#8217;s Musical Club of Toronto present<em> Trio Wanderer, <\/em>with pianist Vincent Coq, violinist Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjab\u00e9dian, and cellist Rapha\u00ebl Pidoux, performing Faur\u00e9, Liszt, and Tchaikovsky. Good things always come in threes. They will also perform Chopin\u2019s early and wonderfully detailed Piano Concerto No.2. Free!<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over a marathon of twelve hours, the CMC will showcase how global music transitions have infiltrated themselves into contemporary Canadian music. It will include both music and visual art. Performers including Suba Sankaran (voice), Parmela Attariwala (violin), TorQ percussion quartet, Germaine Liu\u00a0 and Deb Sinha (percussion), Ernie Tollar (Sax\/Bansuri), Ed Hanley (table), Jordan O\u2019Connor (bass) Dinuk Wijeratne (piano), and Laura Silberberg, (DJ). Repertoire includes Schumann\u2019s Piano Concerto in A, Vieuxtemps\u2019 Violin Concerto No.4, Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s <em>New World Symphony<\/em>, and well as arias by Handel, Gounod and Rossini. The concert will feature Emily D&#8217;Angelo, soprano, Meng Jia Lin, violin, Ethan Chen, piano and David Fallis, conductor. Come out and support this community orchestra. Of course it wouldn\u2019t be a Spanish music concert without some guitar, and Russian Flamenco guitarists Grisha Goryachev will perform alongside Jeffrey Beecher (bass), and Jamie Drake (percussion). Guests include Shawn Grenke, piano\/organ and Robert Carli, saxophone, with Lydia Adams, conducting.
