Join our friends at Musicworks for a unique evening of “event scores” from Yoko Ono\u2019s pioneering conceptual art book, Grapefruit<\/i>. <\/i>These rarely presented works, which include Wood Piece<\/i>,\u00a0Line Piece<\/i>,\u00a0Overtone Piece<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Beat Piece,\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0will be performed by a throng of dancers, musicians, and performance artists. Composer Gayle Young will also tie in with a CD launch of her new recording of Yoko Ono’s Secret Piece, <\/i>a work acknowledged as one of the earliest examples of conceptual art.<\/p>\n
The event will also include food and a special Grapefruit IPA\u2014created specially for \u00a0ONO by Toronto\u2019s Junction Craft Brewery. Stepping in for Wang,\u00a0is Stewart Goodyear, no slouch of his own, performing Weber\u2019s Overture to Oberon, Beethoven\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 3, and Shostakovich\u2019s Symphony No. 5 which also appears on TSO Late Night Saturday June 14th at 10 pm, in conjunction with the Luminato Festival 2014. It tells the story of a picturesque family, and the unintended consequences of their choices. The music plaits a diversity of influences from Brahms, to post-apocalyptic Japanese punk. Mexican pianist Alejandro Vela will be in Toronto this evening to play Rach Meets Rock, a unique program with Rachmaninov\u2019s Etude-tableau <\/i>and tunes by Radiohead transcribed by\u00a0US pianist, Christopher O’Reilly.
