The rumour mill churned that there would be cuts to many classical music programs and a shift away from classical music to other genres such as pop, jazz and folk music.<\/p>\n<p>For a refresher, Musical Toronto&#8217;s John Terauds reported on the original story back in October, 2012\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicaltoronto.org\/2012\/10\/15\/banff-centre-classical-music-programming-in-upheaval-with-departure-of-henk-guittart\/\" target=\"_blank\">here <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicaltoronto.org\/2012\/10\/16\/banff-centre-leadership-promises-that-classical-music-residencies-not-at-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release, Jeff Melanson is stepping down for family reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Brenda Mackie, board chair at the centre, said they have begun a search process for a new president, and the board plan to announce a strategy for the transition period with the goal of maintaining the centre\u2019s strategic plan.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the official press release:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banff Centre announces resignation of President Jeff Melanson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Board of Governors of The Banff Centre announce with regret that President Jeff Melanson has today tendered his resignation.<\/p>\n<p>In the next few weeks, the Board will announce a full plan for the transition period to ensure that the Centre\u2019s strategic plan remains on course. This transition plan, expected to be fully in place by September, will be prepared by the Board with support from the leadership team.<\/p>\n<p>Brenda Mackie, Chair of the Board, will immediately begin a search process for a new president.<\/p>\n<p>Melanson is resigning for family reasons and will be returning to Toronto. He was appointed President in January 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring Jeff\u2019s time with The Banff Centre, he introduced an exciting new vision for our future, and put in place a dynamic and talented team. Jeff has also been instrumental in developing the Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute. He leaves with our very best wishes for his future,\u201d says Mackie.<\/p>\n<p>Melanson says, \u201cIt is with regret that I have resigned from my role as President. I believe fully in The Banff Centre, its Board, its staff, and its strategic direction.
