This is well worth a lunchtime detour. Details <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjamescathedral.on.ca\/ConcertsbrRecitals\/tabid\/61\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soundstreams presents music by (and inspired by) Arvo P\u00e4rt at Koerner Hall, 8 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This ever-inventive music presenter has assembled an excellent array of vocal forces &#8212; soprano Shannon Mercer, baritone Geoffrey Sirrett and Choir 21 &#8212; as well as a string orchestra in a programme conducted by T\u00f6nu Kaljuste that includes two Canadian premieres of works by P\u00e4rt and world premieres by two Toronto composers: James Rolfe and Riho Esko Maimets. Bach.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jerusalem Quartet at the Jane Mallett Theatre, 8 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Music Toronto opens its season with a rich and satisfying programme by one of the great quartets of our time: Mozart&#8217;s <em>&#8220;Prussian&#8221; Quarte<\/em>t, Antonin Dvor\u00e1k&#8217;s Op. 106 in G Major and <em>No. 11<\/em> by Dmitri Shostakovich. Their programme is a mix of chestnuts &#8212; Peter Ilytch Tchaikovsky&#8217;s <em>Serenade for Strings<\/em> and Gioachino Rossini&#8217;s <em>Sonata for Strings<\/em> &#8212; and something more intriguing: a string arrangement of Sergei Prokofiev&#8217;s wonderful <em>Visions fugitives<\/em>.
