(Photo: David Cooper)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This fall, two productions will take the stage at the Harbourfront Fleck Theatre to kick off a landmark residency. Harbourfront Centre and the celebrated Shaw Festival have partnered to create a new destination for theatre on Toronto\u2019s waterfront.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership was solidified at a public announcement event on July 21, 2026 in Toronto. The first two offerings will be Sleuth and A Christmas Carol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo launch our residency at Harbourfront Centre, we wanted to begin with two very different but equally compelling stories: Sleuth, an award-winning modern thriller, and A Christmas Carol, an iconic tale of transformation,\u201d said <strong>Tim Carroll<\/strong>, Artistic Director of the Shaw Festival, in a statement. \u201cThese performances will be specially adapted for the Harbourfront Centre stage, offering Toronto audiences a glimpse of The Shaw\u2019s artistry in a new setting,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese performances will be specially adapted for the Harbourfront Centre stage, offering Toronto audiences a glimpse of The Shaw\u2019s artistry in a new setting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The partnership with Harbourfront allows the Shaw Festival to expand its reach at a time when its venerable Royal George Theatre is closed for renovations. (Photo: David Cooper)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>The Shows<\/h2>\n<h3>Sleuth<\/h3>\n<p>October 16 &amp; 17; Opening: October 18; Closes: November 1, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Sleuth has garnered critical acclaim during its run at the Shaw Festival\u2019s Court House Theatre. That run closes on October 9, just in time to pack its bags and head to Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a clever mystery and crime thriller with a classic a cat and mouse story at its heart. The play, which won both Tony and Edward Awards on Broadway, was written by Anthony Shaffer. The Shaw production is directed by <strong>Peter Fernandes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Story<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Andrew Wyke (<strong>Patrick Galligan<\/strong>), a celebrated mystery writer invites the man he knows to be his wife\u2019s lover (<strong>Sepehr Reybod<\/strong>) to his isolated home in the English countryside, setting up a taut psychological thriller. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that all it not what it appears to be in a game of revenge and power that is being played for keeps.<\/p>\n<p>The play has been lauded as both ingenious and entertaining, keeping audiences guessing until the heart stopping finale.<\/p>\n<h3>A Christmas Carol<\/h3>\n<p>Previews: November 12 to 19; Opening: November 20; Closes: December 23, 2026<\/p>\n<p>A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens has become a holiday staple at the Shaw Festival since 2017. <strong>Tim Carroll,<\/strong> Shaw\u2019s Artistic Director, adapted the story for the stage, and directs the classic story.<\/p>\n<p>The production has been reimagined for the new space at Harbourfront Centre\u2019s Fleck Theatre to offer Toronto audiences another theatrical experience to add to their holiday calendars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Story<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ebenezer Scrooge (<strong>Sanjay Talwar<\/strong>) is a wealthy old miser. His late business partner visits him on Christmas Eve to warn him that he must change his selfish and greedy ways. As a ghost, he is tormented in the after life, and he tells Scrooge he will suffer a similar fate.<\/p>\n<p>But, Scrooge puts it down to a nightmare, until, that is, he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas<br \/>\nPast (<strong>Madelyn Kriese<\/strong>), Present (<strong>Qasim Khan<\/strong>) and Future, who show him what was, what is and what could be his fate.
