The Alliance for Canadian Musicals is back for a second season of programming as part of the 2026 Toronto Fringe Festival<\/strong>. From June 30 to July 12, 2026<\/strong>, eight Canadian musicals will take the stage at Theatre Passe Muraille.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Alliance for Canadian Musicals was formed with the purpose of serving the Canadian musical theatre community. After last year\u2019s tremendous success, we are thrilled to feature eight more Canadian musicals to be seen by audiences, in the hope of nurturing musical theatre development and providing these shows with future opportunities,\u201d says Executive Producer Derrick Chua<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at what\u2019s in store.<\/p>\n

Eight Canadian Musicals At Fringe 2026<\/h2>\n

A Moment for Frayed Nerves (60 mins)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The creators of this experimental musical began with the idea of offering audiences something introspective and comforting. With that in mind, the vignettes that make up the show are inspired by Ghibli cooking scenes, lo-fi study mixes, warm baths and other emotional comfort food. It\u2019s a love letter to modern life in all its emotional range. Original music and choreography combine in this show. The music finds its inspiration in the sounds of Lauridsen choral harmonies, 80s Japanese city pop, 90s early R&B, and 2020s synth pop.<\/p>\n

A Non-Canonical Musical Adventure With Pookamhura: Mistress Of B-Roll (90 mins)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based upon the youtube web-series \u201cPookamhura: Mistress of B-Roll\u201d by Ghastly
\nMusic, Lyrics and Story by Chris Cracknell. Book and Direction by Brian Morton
\nChoreography by Mason Micevski<\/p>\n

This multimedia musical combines live performance, original songs, and digital projections. The story: waiting for other players to join them, a group of MMO players meet a rogue gnome by the name of Pookamhura \u2014 inspired by Puck in Shakespeare\u2019s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As they wait, original songs and humour tell the story of their history as gamers and people. A secret emerges that challenges the group, causing tension. They\u2019re forced to confront prejudices and biases, and make choices. It\u2019s a story about self-discovery and identity.<\/p>\n

Galen\u2019s Grocer: The Musical (60 mins)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone in Canada hates Galen Easton. This dark comedy follows Galen as he tried to rehabilitate his image by creating a TV sitcom about the difficulties of running a grocery store, titled Galen\u2019s Grover. Oh \u2014 and there\u2019s a CEO killer on the loose, just to add to the fun. The original won the Patron\u2019s Pick and TO Star Critic\u2019s Pick at Fringe 2025. The remounts is a new musical adaptation of the show that sold out as Fringe TO last year.<\/p>\n

Grey Spaces (90 mins)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Book by Brittany Miranda, Music by Fynn Cuthbert, Lyrics by Brittany Miranda and Fynn Cuthbert Directed by Saphire Demitro. Music Directed by Fynn Cuthbert<\/p>\n

This original Canadian dystopian musical is a Bowtie Production. Rowan is a Torontonian, stuck in his daily grind. He meets the girl of his dreams \u2014 and dies not long after. Rowan finds himself in a space between life and death where Min, a processing agent, tells him he can come back to earth and relive his life. Grey Spaces explores what happens when we\u2019re all chasing perfectionism and success, and how the pressures can distract us from what\u2019s truly beautiful in life.<\/p>\n

Sinner: A One Woman Tragicomedy about Breaking Up with White Jesus (90 mins)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAdditional material by Ariyel, Lumia Yates, Laura Jessie Doyle, Miles Foxx Hill, Calo Mesa, Frankie Martinelli<\/p>\n

Torgerson was raised in Alberta\u2019s evangelical Bible Belt, and she\u2019s also a classically trained singer. In this show, she blends her operatic background with a razor edge wit to deconstruct fundamentalism in religion. It\u2019s a long and painful process to recognize how men and women are treated so differently by evangelical culture. Marla tackles the prosperity gospel, megachurches, and much more in her searingly funny examination of feminism, patriarchal culture, and true faith.<\/p>\n
