Incredibly, the top six positions remain unchanged, including the Vienna Philharmonic<\/strong> and Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin<\/strong> with the New Year\u2019s Concert 2026<\/strong> (No. 1), Eric Lu<\/strong>\u2019s prize-winning performance of Chopin<\/strong> (no. 2), Andr\u00e9 Rieu<\/strong>\u2019s tribute to two centuries of waltzes and polkas, Thank You, Johann Strauss!<\/strong> (No. 3), British classical guitarist Alexandra Whittingham\u2019<\/strong>s Letters From Paris<\/strong> (No. 4), Icelandic pianist Vikingur \u00d3lafsson<\/strong>\u2019s Opus 109<\/strong> (No. 5), and Nicola Benedetti<\/strong>\u2019s Violin Caf\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0(No. 6).<\/p>\n Toronto fans should note \u2014 both \u00d3lafsson and Benedetti will be making city appearances next month.<\/p>\n Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev<\/strong>\u2019s recording Chopin & Scriabin Preludes<\/strong> makes another step up, coming in at No. 7 after its debut in the Top Ten at No. 10 last week.<\/p>\n The sole newcomer to the Top Ten classical music albums this week is Anastasia Kobekina<\/strong> with her release Bach: Cello Suites<\/strong>, which makes the leap from No. 15 last week to land at No. 10.<\/p>\n The Russian cellist was born in Yekaterinburg into a musical family, and began studying the cello at the tender age of four. She was accepted into the Moscow Conservatory at 12, and a decade later, would continue her education at the Berlin University of the Arts. She won third prize at the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, and received both the Leonard Bernstein Award and the Opus Klassik Award in 2024. A four-part documentary on her career title Now or Never (\u201cJetzt oder nie!\u201d), released in 2024, also served to raise her profile in the music world and beyond.<\/p>\n Bach: Cello Suites was released on the Sony Classical label in September 2025, and was recorded in the Theatre Saint Bonnet, Bourges, France, from January 19 to 25, 2025. Kobekina performs on the historic 1698 Stradivarius cello, called \u201cDe Kermadec-Blass,\u201d and the 1717 \u201cBonamy Dobree Suggia\u201d on the release.<\/p>\n Bach\u2019s cello suites are considered seminal repertoire for the instrument.<\/p>\n \u201cThe dialectic nature of Bach\u2019s suites \u2014 their internal dialogue and contradictions \u2014 has always fascinated me,\u201d says Kobekina in a statement. \u201cThe language is abstract, architectural, rational, logical, and at the same time passionate, emotional, and deeply personal to the performer.\u201d For her listeners, she\u2019s aiming to create \u201ca shared space for interpretation, mine and yours\u201d.<\/p>\n Are you looking to promote an event<\/u><\/span><\/a>?
