Along with the members of the OS, there will be special appearances by members of the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra (OSYO) and the Oakville Choir for Children and Youth.<\/p>\n<p>The program features a mix of classics and new works, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leroy Anderson: Sleigh Ride<\/li>\n<li>Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: Christmas Overture op. 74 No. 1 (arr. Baynes)<\/li>\n<li>Christmas at the Movies (arr. Bob Krogstad)<\/li>\n<li>Selections from Tchaikovsky\u2019s The Nutcracker<\/li>\n<li>David Lovrien: Minor Alterations No. 2<\/li>\n<li>Music from FROZEN (Anderson-Lopen, arr. Krogstad)<\/li>\n<li>All I Want for Christmas (M. Carey &amp; W. Afanasieff)<\/li>\n<li>A Holiday Pops Sing-along (arr. Bob Cerulli)<\/li>\n<li>Jingle Bells (James Lord Pierpont, arr. Kevin Lau)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Conductor Lorenzo Guggenheim<\/h3>\n<p>The Oakville Symphony is led by Music Director &amp; Conductor Lorenzo Guggenheim.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lorenzo immigrated to Canada in 2018. He\u2019s been studying piano, including jazz and popular music, since he was a child, and began formal studies in Argentina. He graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina licensed in Orchestral Conducting, and also studied Contemporary Music Ensemble Conducting\u2019s Diploma in Conservatorio de Musica \u201cManuel de Falla\u201d in Buenos Aires. He conducted in the Teatro Colon with the Academic Orchestra of its Institute for the Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo studied studied choral and opera conducting, along with advanced jazz studies and American musical history at the University of Washington School of Music, earning his Master\u2019s degree in Orchestra Conducting.<\/p>\n<p>Guggenheim immigrated to Canada in 2018, and earned a PhD at the University of Toronto, where he researched the music of composer Franz Shreker, who was banned and persecuted by the Nazi regime in Germany. Lorenzo founded the University of Toronto Campus Philharmonic Orchestra, and still serves as their Musical Director. In 2018, he conducted the North American premiere of Toshio Hosokawa&#8217;s The Maiden from the Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo furthered his studies with masterclasses with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec. He was selected for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra 2023 Conducting Showcase, and was a fellow for Ludovic Morlot at the Seattle Symphony while studying towards his Master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, he participated in the Mentorship program of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. He has worked with mentors such as Bramwell Tovey, Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin, Alexander Shelley, Christian M\u0101celaru, Steven Sloane, Ken Kiesler and Mark Gibson<\/p>\n<p>With the Oakville Symphony, he has worked to strengthen the orchestra\u2019s commitment to diversity, and programs approximately 25% of the music with the work of female composers.
