The Canadian Music Centre is presenting a concert focused on contemporary piano music with two unique artists. On November 15, Eckhardt-Gramatt\u00e9 National Music Competition winner Linda Ruan performs as the Toronto stop on her national winners tour, joined by noted interpreter of contemporary music Stephanie Chua.<\/p>\n

The Eckhardt-Gramatt\u00e9 National Music Competition has pursued a mandate of championing Canadian contemporary music and supporting emerging artists for more than 45 years. Each year, winners go on a national tour to bring contemporary Canadian works to audiences from coast to coast.<\/p>\n

Linda\u2019s program will include works by Asian-Canadian composers Keiko Deveaux, Vincent Ho, Alice Ping-Yee Ho, and the 2025 Eckhardt-Gramatt\u00e9 commissioned work by Rita Ueda.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to show that Canadian music can hold many stories \u2014 and that our shared sound world is richer when we listen across cultures,\u201d says Ruan.<\/p>\n

The concert presents two generations of contemporary piano specialists.<\/p>\n

Pianist Linda Ruan<\/h3>\n

Linda Ruan has performed across the globe, including venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center in New York City, and took part in a Chinese recital tour that took her from Guangzhou to Shanghai. She made her orchestra debut with the Xinghai Philharmonic.<\/p>\n

Linda was born in Tokyo, and began her music studied in Shanghai, China, continuing at the Glenn Gould School, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. She followed it up with Masters degrees from The Juilliard School and the Tianjin School.<\/p>\n

She was the 2018 winner of the Glenn Gould School Concerto Competition, and was named the RBC Stockey Young Artist at the Festival of Sound in Parry Sound. Linda went on to multiple international competition wins, including the VI Odin International Music Competition, Music Without Limits International Competition, and the Seattle International Piano Competition.<\/p>\n

Pianist Stephanie Chua<\/h3>\n

Stephanie Chua has become known for her versatility and artistry, with a focus on contemporary works through inventive programming and collaborations. Her performances have been broadcast across Canada on CBC Radio 2, and in Europe on Rondo Classic FM. She has performed both solo and chamber recitals across Asia, Canada, and in Europe.<\/p>\n

She is a frequent performer with Toronto ensembles such as Soundstreams, Arraymusic, Continuum, and Esprit Orchestra. Highlights include solo recitals at SOUL Live Music Project in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) in partnership with Saigon Classical, New Music Edmonton, and Music Toronto\u2019s Discovery Series, and performances at Shanghai New Music Festival, Whitehorse Concerts (Yukon), and Sound Symposium in St.John\u2019s, NFLD.<\/p>\n

Stephanie earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Victoria, followed by her Master of Music from the University of Toronto and her Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has served as Artist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts.<\/p>\n
