The Oakville Symphony will kick off its 2025\u201326 season with TOGETHER, a concert that features a trio of stellar soloists, and a Canadian premiere. TOGETHER takes place November 1 and 2 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n

The Program<\/h3>\n

Oakville Symphony has a tradition of showcasing the work of women composers at the start of each season. This year, the spotlight is on the Canadian premiere of Ang\u00e9lica Negr\u00f3n\u2019s atmospheric Moriviv\u00ed.<\/p>\n

Following the new work, Beethoven\u2019s iconic Triple Concerto will be performed by a superstar trio that includes acclaimed violinist Timothy Chooi<\/strong>, Canadian cellist No\u00e9mie Raymond<\/strong>, and piano virtuoso Illia Ovcharenko<\/strong>. All three artists have an international profile and prolific careers.<\/p>\n

The orchestra concludes the concert with Mussorgsky-Ravel\u2019s Pictures at an Exhibition, a rich work based on the composer’s walk through an art exhibition.<\/p>\n

Composer Ang\u00e9lica Negr\u00f3n<\/h3>\n

Ang\u00e9lica Negr\u00f3n was born in Puerto Rican and grew up in San Juan. There, she began her music studies in piano and violin at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Today, she\u2019s based in Brooklyn, New York.<\/p>\n

The composer and multi-instrumentalist is known for writing music that blends Western classical tradition with Caribbean influences, electronic music, found sounds, and unusual instrumentation, including robotic instruments, toys, and the accordion. She\u2019s composed music for orchestras, film, and chamber ensembles.<\/p>\n

Among her compositions is a cello concerto that was premiered by Yo-Yo Ma and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, and a requiem for Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Other recent commissions include a drag opera film for Opera Philadelphia, and works for the New York Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the NY Botanical Garden, and Kronos Quartet, among others. She recently made a Carnegie Hall debut with a piece commissioned and performed by S\u014d Percussion.<\/p>\n

Ang\u00e9lica was the recipient of the 2022 Hermitage Greenfield Prize, and in 2025, has served as the guest curator for Los Angeles Philharmonic\u2019s Green Umbrella series under the creative direction of John Adams.<\/p>\n

She is also a teaching artist for New York Philharmonic’s Very Young Composers program and Lincoln Center Education.<\/p>\n
