In keeping with the season, the Apocryphonia Concert Series and Rezonance Baroque Ensemble offer Enchanted Baroque: Magick, Myths & Music, a program that delves into the musical worlds of fairies and vampires, demons and demigods.<\/p>\n

In between the musical pieces, violinist and teacher Elena Spanu will tell folk tales to add to the mood.<\/p>\n

The program includes Henry Purcell\u2019s The Fairy Queen and King Arthur, arias from Francesco Cavalli\u2019s Rosinda, John Eccles\u2019s Aire from the Mad Lover, and William Hayes\u2019 The Thirsty Vampires, in all likelihood the first art song to be written about vampires back in 1763. The program is rounded out with music by Giuseppe Tartini and William Byrd.<\/p>\n

Performers<\/h3>\n

Along with narrator Elena Spanu, Apocryphonia artistic director and tenor Alexander Cappellazzo will perform with Rezonance Baroque Ensemble.<\/p>\n

Rezonance Baroque Ensemble is led by Artistic Director and Baroque violinist Rezan Onan-Lapointe, with Elizabeth Loewen Andrews (Baroque violin), Sam Rothermel (Baroque viola), Amahl Arulanandam (Baroque cello), David Podgorski (harpsichord), and Benjamin Stein (theorbo\/lute).<\/p>\n

Resonance Baroque Ensemble<\/strong> was formed in 2012, and began to build a reputation as distinctive interpreters of primarily Baroque repertoire \u2014 but with a difference. The Ensemble integrates improvisation, a practice that was common in the Baroque, and presenting concerts in diverse formats to reach a larger audience. Rezonancce was featured in the Early Music America Emerging Artists Showcase in 2019, and in 2023, recorded their debut album, James Oswald: Airs for the Seasons, on the Leaf Music label.<\/p>\n

Their focus is on under-appreciated and unusual works, as well as new ways of presenting the music to reach more listeners.<\/p>\n

Violinist Rezan Onan-Lapointe<\/strong> is the founder and artistic director. Rezan earned a Masters degree in Baroque violin from McGill University. Along with Resonance, she has performed with a variety of early music groups, including the Ottawa Baroque Consort, Elixir Baroque Ensemble, and several others. She also frequently performs with the Canadian Arabic Orchestra, including on their recordings.<\/p>\n

Concert Details<\/h3>\n

There will be two concerts, one in the east end, and one in the west end on October 25 and 26, 2025. Audience costumes are encouraged!<\/p>\n
