The performance, on June 21, also celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day, and Pride.<\/p>\n<p>Two-Spirit artist Jeremy Dutcher performs as a vocalist, while Lucas Waldin conducts the orchestra, with members of the WICIW | Togetherness Choir accompanying the Tobique First Nation singer.<\/p>\n<p>As a classically trained pianist and innovative composer, pop, neoclassical, jazz, and traditional Indigenous influences blend in Dutcher\u2019s music, which has garnered international acclaim. Dutcher will be singing music from his debut release Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa, (which won both the Polaris Prize and a JUNO Award in 2018,) and his newest album, Motewolonuwok, which garnered his second Polaris win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is more than a concert \u2014 it\u2019s a celebration of light, identity, and artistic freedom,\u201d says <strong>Mark Williams<\/strong>, Beck Family CEO of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to welcome Jeremy Dutcher and invite Toronto to come together in joy and reflection on this special night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To add to the occasion of celebrating Indigenous and queer pride, along with the official arrival of summer, there will be a cocktail party with a DJ, and the opportunity to mingle with Dutcher and musicians of the TSO.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Dutcher with WICIW: The Choir from Motewolonuwok:<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/trfm9e-Tf88?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h3>Jeremy Dutcher: A Unique Artist<\/h3>\n<p>Jeremy Dutcher has emerged as much more than a crossover music star. The Canadian pianist, tenor, composer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2023\/09\/13\/interview-composer-jeremy-dutcher-talks-telling-story-new-docu-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">musicologist and activist<\/a> is a member of the \u00a0Wolastoqiyik\u00a0(Maliseet), of the\u00a0Tobique First Nation\u00a0based today in North-West\u00a0New Brunswick. Dutcher is a graduate of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, where he studied music and anthropology. He\u2019s trained as an operatic tenor.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy took his training and began to incorporate elements of his roots, including the vocal style as well as repertoire.
