Hillis will begin curating the programming for the 2026-26 season.<\/p>\n<p>Amy will take over from Simon Fryer, who has held the position since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to welcome Amy Hillis as our new Artistic Director,\u201d said <strong>Janet Murray<\/strong>, President of the WMCT. \u201cAmy is a dynamic artist and a visionary thinker with a passion for chamber music and a strong connection to emerging Canadian talent. Her experience as a performer and her innovative approach to programming are an ideal match for the WMCT\u2019s mission as we approach our 130th anniversary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WMCT has been hosting one of the city\u2019s premier chamber music concert series for a staggering 127 seasons. The Music in the Afternoon series has become a place to experience the world\u2019s best chamber musicians, including local and Canadian as well as international artists.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PD4UrwAG8-o?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h2>Amy Hillis<\/h2>\n<p>Amy Hillis is a violinist, educator, and advocate for Canadian music. Amy is a native of Regina, Saskatchewan. She earned her Bachelor of Music at McGill University, followed by a Master\u2019s degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Gillis returned to McGill to complete her Doctor of Music in Violin Performance.<\/p>\n<p>Her talent has been recognized with a first prize at the Eckhardt-Gramatt\u00e9 National Music Competition, as well as an artistic residency at La Cit\u00e9 Internationale des Arts in Paris, a win at the McGill Concerto Competition, and the Sylva Gelber Foundation Music Award.<\/p>\n<p>She has performed across Canada, and commissioned several new works from composers such as Matthew Brubeck, Fj\u00f3la Evans, Vincent Ho, Andrew Staniland, Jocelyn Morlock, and Nicole Liz\u00e9e, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Amy is currently Assistant Professor of Community Music at York University\u2019s School of Arts, Media, Performance and Design.<\/p>\n<h2>Music in the Afternoon: 2025-26<\/h2>\n<p>Simon Fryer\u2019s final season as Artistic Director, and the concert series\u2019 128th, includes a creative mix of chamber music.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2022\/11\/11\/interview-front-centre-meet-coc-ensemble-studio-competition-winner-karoline-podolak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Karoline Podolak<\/a>, soprano (October 9, 2025)<\/li>\n<li>Maxwell Quartet (Nov 12, 2025)<\/li>\n<li>VC2 Cello Duo with Amy Hillis, violin (March 5, 2026)<\/li>\n<li>St\u00e9phane T\u00e9treault, cello; Denis Plante, bandoneon; Chlo\u00e9 Dumoulin, piano (April 2, 2026)<\/li>\n<li>Fierbois: Caitlin Broms-Jacobs, oboe &amp; Madeline Hildebrand, piano (May 7, 2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Find more details about the upcoming season [<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmct.on.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>].<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Are you looking to promote an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/advertising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a\"><u>event<\/u><\/span><\/a>?
