For the complete top 20, tune into Classical Chartz<\/a><\/strong> with the New Classical FM\u2019s Mark Wigmore every Saturday from 3-5 p.m. Check out the full Top 20 here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Neoclassical music and the Baroque period seem to have a stranglehold on the upper end of the Classical Chartz.<\/p>\n Remarkably, the top three spots on the Classical Chartz remain unchanged from last week, with Jean-Michel Blais<\/strong> and Lara Somogyi<\/strong> retaining their No. 1 position with Desert<\/strong> for a third week in a row. Right behind, Bach<\/strong> with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and James Ehnes<\/strong> stay at No. 2, and Bach: Goldberg Variations<\/strong> by Nevermind<\/strong> remain unchanged and unbothered at No. 3.<\/p>\n With a lot of shuffling in between the ranks, the newcomer for this week lands at No. 10 \u2014 <\/em>Shostakovich: Cello Concertos<\/strong> with Yo-Yo Ma and the Boston Symphony Orchestra<\/strong> under the baton of Andris Nelsons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Shostakovich\u2019s artistic truth was to represent the voice of the voiceless,\u201d Yo-Yo Ma says in the liner notes for the Deutsche Grammophon release.<\/p>\n The album was recorded live at Boston Symphony Hall in October 2023 by Hollywood producer Shawn Murphy and BSO recording engineer Nick Squire. The releases have been timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the composer\u2019s death.<\/p>\n The Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major, Op. 107 and Cello Concerto No. 2 in G Major, Op. 126 offer contrasting moods, virtuosity and drama, with notable mention of the work by BSO Principal Horn Richard Sebring in the former, and more famous, work.
