He\u2019s one of 38 violists who have been selected from a field of 91 candidates who submitted their applications for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year old is among the youngest of the competitors, and the only musician to come from Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to present 38 wonderful young violists from around the globe. The competition wants to challenge them, help them develop their stage personality and enlarge their perspective. The preselection process was already a proof of the good spirit at the Concours de Gen\u00e8ve,\u201d says Tabea Zimmerman, Chair of the Jury, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Fast facts about the competition:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The competition was open to violists who were born after November 12, 1995, and the average age is 23.3;<\/li>\n<li>There is a 50\/50 split between men and women candidates selected to perform in the online recital;<\/li>\n<li>Of the 38, 17 of the candidates are from Europe, 13 from Asia, 7 from the Americas, and 1 from<br \/>\nAfrica.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first official round takes place from September 8 to 14, 2025, and will take the form of an online recital that audiences can stream from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@Genevacompetition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concours de Gen\u00e8ve&#8217;s YouTube channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Semi-Final and Final Rounds of the Competition will be held from November 6 to 12 in Geneva, and will be livestreamed on Concours de Gen\u00e8ve&#8217;s website and social media channels, with the final taking place in Geneva\u2019s Victoria Hall with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.<\/p>\n<p>The prizes are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1st Prize: CHF 20,000 (approx. $33,600 CAD)<\/li>\n<li>2nd Prize: CHF 12,000 (approx. $20,000 CAD)<\/li>\n<li>3rd Prize: CHF 8,000 (approx. $13,400 CAD)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hc9mJTDuWZo?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h3>Emad Zolfaghari, viola<\/h3>\n<p>Emad Zolfaghari hails from Oakville, Ontario. Emad studied at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists in Toronto before entering the Curtis Institute of Music in 2021 at the age of 16, where he currently studies as the Elaine W. Camarda and A. Morris Williams Jr. Fellow.<\/p>\n<p>He is a past member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and has performed as a soloist with l\u2019Orchestre M\u00e9tropolitain at the Maison Symphonique in Montr\u00e9al under the baton of Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic in Strathmore Hall, the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and the National Metropolitan Philharmonic.<\/p>\n<p>Zolfaghari is no stranger to competitions \u2014 or wins. Past successes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First prize at the 2023 Irving M.
