The release blurs the lines between genres that include classical and folk music, including works by Glass, Russell, Purcell, Newman, C. Livingston, R. Clarke, and others.<\/p>\n<p>Other nominees for Classical album of the year (solo artist):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Signature, Philip Glass, Ang\u00e8le Dubeau<\/li>\n<li>Messiaen, Barbara Hannigan<\/li>\n<li>Butterfly Lightning Shakes the Earth, India Gailey<\/li>\n<li>Williams Violin Concerto No. 1; Bernstein Serenade, James Ehnes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Montreal string ensemble<strong> collectif9<\/strong> takes home the statue <strong>Classical album of the year (small ensemble)<\/strong> for their album <strong>Ritu\u00e6ls<\/strong>. With music that spans the centuries from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, the ensemble describes the release as \u201can artistic and spiritual experience\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Other nominess for Classical album of the year (small ensemble)\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Known To Dreamers: Black Voices in Canadian Art Song, Canadian Art Song Project<\/li>\n<li>East is East, Infusion Baroque<\/li>\n<li>Marie Hubert: Fille du Roy, Karina Gauvin<\/li>\n<li>Kevin Lau: Under a Veil of Stars, St. John\u2013Mercer\u2013Park Trio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Inuk soprano\/composer <strong>Deantha Edmunds<\/strong> made history as the first Indigenous woman to win the JUNO Award for Classical composition of the year for her piece <strong>Angmalukisaa<\/strong>.
