Jon Batiste<\/strong> takes over the top spot on the Classical Chartz Top Ten with his new release Beethoven Blues<\/strong>. The combination of genres is putty in the hands of the keyboard genius, and he\u2019s winning more fans in both the pop and classical music worlds.<\/p>\n

Ottawa native Fran\u00e7ois Dompierre<\/strong> has been a fixture on the Classical Chartz for weeks. This week, he regains the No. 2 position, up from No. 4 last week. His Requiem<\/strong> takes a cinematic approach to musicality, not surprising for someone who\u2019s composed more than 60 film scores.<\/p>\n

The Silkroad Ensemble & Rhiannon Giddens<\/strong>, and their release American Railroad<\/strong>, is both the newcomer and the fastest rising album in the Top Ten this week. It makes the leap from No. 15 up to land at No. 9.<\/p>\n

Grammy Award-winning Musician, MacArthur recipient and Pulitzer Prize winner\u00a0Rhiannon Giddens is known for her eclectic approach to folk music. As a performer, she is a singer, fiddle and banjo player, and joins The Silkroad Ensemble for the project.<\/p>\n

The album, in its concept, looks to reclaim a piece of American history. The Transcontinental Railroad turned a coast to coast trip from a months long perilous journey to a crossing of under a week. The history books talk about the gains in economic and cultural terms. They seldom, however, talk about the people who built the railroad \u2014 immigrant labourers from Ireland, China, Japan, and other far flung locales, along with Indigenous Americans and African Americans. Their untold stories are what drives the album and its music. The ensemble is taking the show on tour through 2025, with Vancouver (March 30) so far their only Canadian date.<\/p>\n
