Even those of us who cherish the holidays all have those moments when it Scrooge-like feelings can take over. Toronto\u2019s Opera Revue has a musical solution: Bach-Humbug! A Holiday Opera Show for People Who Hate the Holidays.<\/p>\n

The show takes place on December 8 at The Redwood Theatre, and features a focus on the music and the operatic fireworks as opposed to holiday trappings.<\/p>\n

\u201cTired of hearing the same old holiday tunes on repeat every time you walk into a department store? Us too. So, we are gathering our friends, donning our finest holiday attire, and belting out our frustrations in full operatic flair.<\/p>\n

\u201cPicture this: a chorus of holiday haters passionately lamenting the endless loop of Rudolph while dramatically waving candy canes like they\u2019re conducting a symphony. Because if we have to hear Deck the Halls one more time, we might as well do it with a flourish!\u201d said Opera Revue founder Danie Friesen<\/strong> in a statement.<\/p>\n

According to their notes, the program will consist of: \u201c…music carefully curated to satisfy your seasonal skepticism, the night will include such holiday hits as The Grinch, Blue Christmas, O Holy Night (and probably something in Latin and German because of our clever title\/pun!)\u201d<\/p>\n

Audience are invited to bring non-perishable food items in support of Daily Bread Food Bank.<\/p>\n

Opera Revue<\/h3>\n

Opera Revue<\/a>, founded in 2017 by soprano Danie Friesen, has a core team of Friesen, pianist Claire Elise Harris, and baritone Alexander Hajek. For this, their sixth season, they\u2019re launching their first full season of programming, including monthly shows at The Redwood Theatre.<\/p>\n

Opera Revue\u2019s mission is to take the elitism out of opera and focus on the glorious music. They perform opera and art song in bars and other venues where the silent, still atmosphere of the concert hall gives way to drinks, freedom of movement, and a distinctly relaxed vibe.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a wonderful way to form an introduction to the world of opera, or to simply experience it in a different way than you may be used to.<\/p>\n
