Baroque court dancers will highlight Opera Atelier\u2019s upcoming season opener, Handel\u2019s Acis and Galatea, along with other appropriately spooky operatic and musical theatre favourites.<\/p>\n<p>The wardrobe department of Opera Atelier will contribute a display of their elaborate costumes, and there will be a prize for the best audience costume of the show. Trills, Chills and Frills, A Halloween Masquerade takes place October 13.<\/p>\n<p>Check out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/6l6fsmN3QHg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">teaser for the show here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Handel\u2019s opera Acis and Galatea brings to life the story of the water nymph Galatea and her love for the Arcadian shepherd Acis. Drawn from Ovid\u2019s Metamorphoses, it\u2019s become one of his most popular works. Opera Atelier\u2019s production is sung in English, and features the combination of baroque opera and ballet that the company has become famous for.<\/p>\n<h2>Performers: Special Guests<\/h2>\n<p>Special guests join in on the performance.<\/p>\n<h3>Eric Da Silva, dancer<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2022\/02\/15\/interview-eric-cesar-de-mello-da-silva-playing-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Cesar de Mello da Silva<\/a> has worked with the Royal Danish Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada, in addition to his performances with Opera Atelier. A native of Brazil, he studied dance in Rio de Janeiro at the Escola Estadual de Danca Maria Olenewa, followed by studies at the San Francisco Ballet School, and an apprenticeship at the National Ballet of Canada. Along with the technical skills, during his time at Opera Atelier, he has developed a deep appreciation for the complexity of baroque art.<\/p>\n<h3>Julia Sedwick, dancer<\/h3>\n<p>Based in Toronto, Julia graduated from Canada\u2019s National Ballet School, and began her career at The National Ballet of Canada. Acis and Galatea was Julia\u2019s first production with Opera Atelier back in 2010, when she joined the company. She has also performed at The Royal Opera at The Palace of Versailles, The Harris Theatre in Chicago, The Salzburg Festival, as well as the Trasimeno Music Festival in Perugia. Julia has also danced as a guest performer with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens.<\/p>\n<h3>Benjamin Done, tenor<\/h3>\n<p>Ben earned his Bachelor of Arts (honours) in Music, majoring in Piano, and his Bachelor of Education at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. He then went on to complete a Master of Music degree at the University of Toronto Opera School. He\u2019s sung a variety of operatic roles, including Mr. Splinters in The Tender Land, Ein Weiser in Hin und Zur\u00fck, Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two Cities, John Adams in The Mother of Us All, and Marco Palmieri from The Gondoliers, among others. Ben\u2019s experience includes roles as a soloist in Mozart\u2019s Requiem and Bach\u2019s Christmas Oratorio. He begins his first season with the Canadian Opera Company Chorus in 2024\/25.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trills, Chills and Frills takes place at The Redwood Theatre, with a licensed lounge area.
