In what amounts to the largest pledge to support programming at a performing arts organization in Canada, the Barrett Family Foundation has pledged a gift of $15 million to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The gift will be used to support community and engagement programs of the TSO, such as the recent Open House and Free Community Concert of September 23, where the announcement was first made.<\/p>\n

Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser<\/strong>, the face of the TSO\u2019s community and engagement programs, will see a title change in recognition of the significant increase in support that will expand the program\u2019s reach. Bartholomew-Poyser\u2019s artistic community leadership role is named the Barrett Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have always believed in the power of music to inspire, educate, and bring people together,\u201d says the Foundation in a statement. \u201cOur commitment to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra reflects our passion for ensuring that children and youth across Toronto have access to the enriching experience of live orchestral music.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy supporting the TSO\u2019s community and education programs, we hope to create opportunities for young people to discover the joy and inspiration that music can bring into their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Barrett Family Foundation<\/strong> established in 2013 by spouses Bob Barrett and Francine Rouleau-Barrett, along with daughters Kim and Rebecca. The family fortunes were built via Polytainers, a packaging company where Bob Barrett is CEO. The Foundation supports a variety of causes, which have included STEM programs at Toronto\u2019s Humber College.<\/p>\n
