There\u2019s a lot of movement in the Classical Chartz Top Ten this week, both up and down… but not at the top spot. It is now Isata Kanneh-Mason<\/strong>\u2019s turn to hold her own at the No. 1 position for the second week in a row with Mendelssohn<\/strong>. Right behind her comes Joanna Mallwitz & Konzerthausorchester Berlin<\/strong> with The Kurt Weill Album<\/strong>, which rises from No. 3 last week to No. 2.<\/p>\n

There are two new albums in the Classical Chartz Top Ten for this week. German tenor Jonas Kaufmann\u2019<\/strong>s Puccini Love Affairs<\/strong> enters the Classical Chartz at No. 6. The album was put together in honour of the iconic opera composer\u2019s centenary year. Kaufmann talks about it on in an Instagram post.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cFor my latest album, I had the pleasure of collaborating with some of today\u2019s leading sopranos to celebrate Puccini\u2019s centenary year. What really appealed to me was recording these very different scenes and duets with different partners. With almost all of them I\u2019ve experienced unforgettable moments on stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

He sings duets from Tosa, Manon Lescaut, and other romantic operas with a string of contemporary divas, including Anna Netrebko, Pretty Yende, Sonya Yoncheva, and more.<\/p>\n

Emily D\u2019Angelo<\/strong>\u2019s Freezing<\/strong> makes the leap from No. 13 last week to No. 9 this week. For her second release on the DG label, the Canadian soprano sings 17 songs that represent a diverse range of influences from art song to pop to folklore.<\/p>\n

The composers includes: John Dowland, Henry Purcell, Rebecca Clarke, Zolt\u00e1n Kod\u00e1ly, W.C. Handy, and Philip Glass, along with recent works by Randy Newman, Jeanine Tesori, Cecilia Livingston, \u201cAdrian Ira\u201d Kramer and US-based rock band Ween. Thirteen of the tracks feature Sophia Mu\u00f1oz on the piano, with Bruno Helstroffer on electric guitar, and Jonas Niederstadt on bass guitar, synth, and percussion.<\/p>\n
