The award was given in recognition of his work in two productions during the 2023\/24 season: performing the title role in choreographer John Cranko\u2019s Onegin and the role of Espada in Carlos Acosta\u2019s Don Quixote.<\/p>\n<p>Gerty received the award on September 9, 2024 at a special dinner and presentation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChristopher has had an exceptional year with The National Ballet of Canada and it was impossible to separate his poetic debut of Eugene Onegin with that of his grandiose portrayal of Espada in\u00a0Don Quixote, so I am thrilled that we can honour him with the 2024\u00a0Dancers First\u00a0Award for both of these significant roles,\u201d said Muir.<\/p>\n<p>A jury made up of member\u2019s of the National Ballet\u2019s Artistic Staff selects the recipient of the Dancers First Award to recognize outstanding performance each year. Along with the recognition, the prize comes with a $5,000 cash award.<\/p>\n<p>National Ballet of Canada dancers Heather Ogden and Christopher Gerty perform The Four Seasons \u2014 Summer in 2020:<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g5PQLvwzEBo?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h2>Principal Dancer Christopher Gerty<\/h2>\n<p>Born in Britain, Gerty moved with his family to Australia as a child. There, cousins persuaded him to join ballet classes, a pursuit that became serious by the time he turned 15. He studied at the New Zealand School of Dance for two years, then headed to San Francisco. While studying at the San Francisco Ballet School\u2019s trainee program win his teens, he was hit by a car, and broke two ribs in the accident. Subsequently, a torn meniscus sidelined him for the better part of a year. Luckily, he was able to overcome the physical challenges and move on in his training.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher had visited Canada during his time in the US, and was impressed by the National Ballet \u2014 impressed enough that he auditioned in 2014, and became part of the corps de ballet in 2015. He performed his first starring role in 2017, and was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2023\/06\/19\/scoop-nbc-announces-christopher-gertys-promotion-principal-dancer-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">promoted to Principal Dancer in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gerty has become known for his versatility as well as thoughtful interpretations. His repertoire includes Prince Siegfried in\u00a0Swan Lake, the title role in\u00a0Romeo and Juliet, Lewis Carroll\/The White Rabbit in\u00a0Alice\u2019s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter\/The Nutcracker in\u00a0The Nutcracker, Prince Charming in\u00a0Cinderella, Diamond Man in\u00a0The Sleeping Beauty, A Man in\u00a0The Four Seasons, Rodolphe Boulanger in the world premiere of\u00a0Helen Pickett\u2019s\u00a0Emma Bovary\u00a0and Leo in\u00a0William Yong\u2019s world premiere of\u00a0UtopiVerse.<\/p>\n<h2>NBC Fall 2024<\/h2>\n<p>Gerty will be performing during the NBC\u2019s fall 2024 calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Productions include a mixed program that spotlights the Canadian premieres of\u00a0Sol Le\u00f3n\u00a0and\u00a0Paul Lightfoot\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Silent Screen<\/strong>, and\u00a0Sir Frederick Ashton\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Rhapsody<\/strong>, and Guillaume C\u00f4t\u00e9\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Body of Work<\/strong> from November 9 \u2013 16, 2024, and Sir Peter Wright\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Giselle<\/strong>, from November 20 \u2013 24, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about Silent Screen [<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/national.ballet.ca\/productions\/silent-screen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>], and Giselle [<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/national.ballet.ca\/productions\/giselle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>].<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Are you looking to promote an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/advertising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0e101a\"><u>event<\/u><\/span><\/a>?
