The CCC consists of 22 professional singers from across Canada.

“It is exciting to get to venture a bit further into the near north of Ontario,” says CCC artistic director, Dr. Julia Davids, who is also a founding member of the ensemble. “I grew up spending a lot of time with my family in this part of Ontario. A September tour will mean some spectacular fall colour and experiences with the many lakes and landscapes.”

The tour lands in Toronto on September 7, their first concert in the city since 2006, before heading to Northern Ontario, and back again for the SweetWater Music Festival. The tour supports the recent release of their CD Where Waters Meet.

The Singers

“Our mandate is to build up and support choral community in as many different places and spaces as we have the privilege of entering,” said CCC associate conductor Dr. Joel Tranquilla. “Our singers bring with them a rich and diverse range of lived and professional experiences. We are constantly being shaped by our interactions with one another and with the communities we enter.”

CCC was founded in 1999, and has established a schedule of two tours each year. The 22 singers of the CCC truly represent the country from coast to coast, with members who come from Newfoundland to the Northwest Territories to British Columbia.

Sherryl Sewepagaham

After earning a Bachelor of Music Therapy (Capilano University) and a Bachelor of Education (University of Alberta), Sherryl worked as an elementary school music teacher for 14 years before making the switch to music therapy. She currently works with Indigenous patients, along with continuing to provide educational workshops.

Sherryl is a member of the JUNO-nominated trio Asani. Her Cree-language drum compositions have won a 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award, a 2010 Indian Summer Music Award, a 2005 Canadian Aboriginal Music Award, and her performing career has taken her to NYC’s Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., along with venues across Canada.

Where Waters Meet

The Where Waters Meet project is part of the Canadian Chamber Choir’s commitment to truth and reconciliation. The multi-movement work was commissioned from Yellowknife composer Carmen Braden in 2017, and incorporates texts written by Braden, the singers, and Indigenous poet Yolanda Bonnell.

Bonnell is an Ojibwe/South Asian performer and playwright from Fort William First Nation Indian Reserve in Thunder Bay. The piece premiered in 2019 in Yellowknife, NWT with fiddler Wesley Hardisty from the Dene First Nation.

The album will be released on September 6; preorder/order [HERE].

The Tour

The tour begins with a choral retreat in Toronto, joining Pax Christi Chorale and Exultate Chamber Singers. The retreat culminates in a concert on September 7 with Babεl, a Toronto choir known for exploring the intersections of the city’s many cultures.

The CCC will be performing with Near North Voices in North Bay (September 9,) and will sing in Kagawong on Manitoulin Island (September 11), along with a performance aboard the MS Chi-Cheemaun (September 12).

The tour ends at the SweetWater Festival as a headlining act on September 14 and 15.

Find out more about the performances in Toronto (Sept 7) at the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, in Huntsville (Sept 8), North Bay (Sept 9), Kagawong (Sept 11) and Owen Sound (Sept 14 & 15) [HERE].

Are you looking to promote an event?
