Horizons is the name given to the 2024 National Youth Orchestra of Canada tour. After launching in Kingston, ON on July 18, Horizons lands on the stage of Toronto\u2019s Koerner Hall on July 19.<\/p>\n

NYO Canada has been training some of Canada\u2019s most talented young orchestral musicians through their effective pre-professional program. It\u2019s available yearly to musicians aged 16 to 28.<\/p>\n

The Horizons tour, which uses an innovative pay-what-you-can pricing model, will take the NYO Canada from Kingston, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta in just two weeks.<\/p>\n

Toronto & Ontario Talent<\/h2>\n

The July 19 concert will be a homecoming of sorts for several of the young musicians.<\/p>\n

Ivan Li<\/strong> (Violin): While studying violin at Western University, Ivan has performed with professional orchestras such as the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and Regina Symphony Orchestra. Along with NYO Canada, he has studied at Indiana University Academy, and Scotia Festival of Music.<\/p>\n

Vincent Poon<\/strong> (Violin): The University of Toronto student comments, \u201cWithout this program to ease people into the professional field, there would be a shortage of people who could practice the art and do it justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robyn Lianne Cheng<\/strong> (Viola): A student at the Glenn Gould School, Robyn is already an experienced orchestral musician. She is the recipient of the 2024 Kenneth G. Mills Scholarship.<\/p>\n

Lucas Chen<\/strong> (Viola): Lucas studies at Upper Canada College, and has participated in the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra as well as NYO Canada.<\/p>\n

Kevin Belvedere<\/strong> (Viola): Kevin has performed with the Mandle Philharmonic and Orchester Opery NDKE. Along with NYO Canada, he has participated in intensive performing and training programs such as the Orchestre de la Francophonie and PRISMA Festival.<\/p>\n

The Program<\/h3>\n

For the Toronto concert, the program is varied, and includes familiar pieces along with newer works.<\/p>\n
