At the base of Market Street just east of Toronto\u2019s downtown, at the corner of The Esplanade, the gorgeous sounds of opera will fill the lunch time air on the second Sunday of each month. The venerable St. Lawrence Market plays host to Opera Atelier\u2019s free outdoor opera recitals, featuring a new duo of talented performers each time.<\/p>\n

The next Sunday Opera On Market Street takes place July 13<\/strong>. There will be three performances around midday at 11 a.m., 12 noon, and again at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

Last month, soprano Karine White and pianist Christopher Bagan entertained a crowd outside the market. On July 13, baritone Christopher Dunham and pianist Trevor Chartrand will take their places underneath the tarp.<\/p>\n

The Artists<\/h2>\n

Baritone Christopher Dunham<\/strong> is a native of Niagara Falls, and he\u2019s performed across North America and Europe with a variety of repertoire from concert, opera and recital, to circus and burlesque.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a graduate of L\u2019Atelier Lyrique de L\u2019Op\u00e9ra de Montr\u00e9al, as well as Atlanta Opera\u2019s Young Artist Residency. Christopher won the Desmarais Development Bursary, given by the Montreal-based Fondation Jacqueline Desmarais for Young Opera Singers, three years in a row.<\/p>\n

His roles have included: The Brother in Seven Deadly Sins (Atlanta Opera), Figaro in The Barber of Seville (Brott Opera), Argante in Rinaldo (Pacific Opera Victoria), Dandini in La Cenerentola (La Musica Lyrica), Schaunard in La Boh\u00e8me and Escamillo in Carmen (L’Op\u00e9ra de Montr\u00e9al).<\/p>\n

Dr. Trevor Chartrand<\/strong> is a busy Toronto-based collaborative pianist with a private studio. He\u2019s performed with a variety of soloists and organizations, including soprano Julie Nesrallah, Toronto Summer Music, the Orford Music Festival, and many others. He includes work as a repetiteur in his CV, including both vocal and chamber music. He\u2019s toured throughout North America, Europe, and Australia.<\/p>\n

Trevor earned his Bachelor\u2019s degree in solo piano performance, as well as a Master\u2019s in collaborative piano, from the University of Western Ontario. He went on to obtain a Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in collaborative piano at the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n

The Details<\/h3>\n

As on the previous occasion, the program will be varied. It will include excerpts from shows from Opera Atelier\u2019s upcoming 2024\/25 season, including Handel\u2019s Acis and Galatea, and M.A. Charpentier\u2019s David and Jonathan.<\/p>\n

Sunday Opera On Market Street repeats on the second Sunday of the month through September, with remaining dates on August 11<\/strong> and September 8<\/strong>; (performers yet to be announced for the next dates).<\/p>\n
