The Royal Conservatory of Music, in partnership with The Daniels Corporation, has announced the establishment of the My Piece of the City program. It\u2019s an initiative designed to offer more equitable access to presenting concerts and shows on Koerner Hall\u2019s stage to smaller cultural organizations and individuals.<\/p>\n

The Daniels Corporation is a Canadian builders\/developers that has been operating in the Greater Toronto Area for more than four decades. The company is the developer of TIFF Bell Lightbox, and the City of the Arts community on the East Bayfront, along with the revitalization of much of the Regent Park community.<\/p>\n

The program was established via funds that were raised from a gala presentation of Songs from The Journey, a show that\u2019s premiering this summer.<\/p>\n

Songs from The Journey<\/h2>\n

The Journey Musical is more than just musical theatre, it\u2019s a production that tells the stories of Regent Park, Canada\u2019s oldest and largest housing project, and its transformation into a thriving community. The musical was performed at Daniel\u2019s Spectrum in Regent Park from 2013 to 2018.<\/p>\n

That production raised more than $4.4 million to support the venue, Daniels\u2019 Spectrum, as a hub for the arts and culture in Regent Park.<\/p>\n

Songs from The Journey takes highlights from that show, and puts it onto the prominent stage of Koerner Hall.<\/p>\n

Charlotte Siegel<\/strong>, a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, will perform, along with Canadian icons Jackie Richardson<\/strong>, Quisha Wint<\/strong> and Gavin Hope<\/strong>, and emerging artists Trevlyn Kennedy<\/strong> and Stacy Darko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
