The Montr\u00e9al Symphony Orchestra and Raphael Payare<\/strong> hold the line at No. 5 with with recording of Strauss and Mahler,<\/strong> while the top two, Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and Leonidas Kavakos<\/strong> (Beethoven for Three<\/strong>) and Il Volo<\/strong> (Ad Astra<\/strong>) drop to 3 and 4 respectively. They make room for the rapidly rising Daniil Trifonov & Sergei Babayan<\/strong> (Rachmaninoff for Two<\/strong>) and Hauser<\/strong> (Classic II<\/strong>) to climb to Nos. 1 and 2.<\/p>\n

Three new releases make their debut in the Classical Chartz Top Ten this week. Yundi\u2019s Mozart: The Sonata Project<\/strong>, jumps up to No. 8 from 15. Yundi, aka Yundi Li, has been fascinated by the music of Mozart since the age of 7 (perhaps child prodigies think alike?) His international career was launched Nader winning First Prize at the 14th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 2000. His latest recording includes Mozart\u2019s Piano Sonata No. 8 (K.310), the Piano Sonata No. 11 (K.331)\u00a0Alla Turca, the Fantasia in C minor, K. 475, and the Piano Sonata No. 14 (K.457).<\/p>\n

Leonidas Kavakos<\/strong> adds a second release to his Top Ten count for the week with the Bach Violin Concertos,<\/strong> which lands at No. 9 after climbing from No. 12 last week. He\u2019s joined by the Apollon Ensemble for the recording of Bach\u2019s four concertos for solo violin, characterized by both the Italian and German styles of playing of the era. Kavakos performs with a bow that has been crafted along the lines of work done by early 18th century master maker Fran\u00e7ois Tourte.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9 Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra<\/strong> enter the Classical Chartz for the first time at the No. 10 position. The release is called Love Is All Around (Live)<\/strong>, and captures violinist Andr\u00e9 Rieu\u00a0and the orchestra at an open-air concert in Maastricht\u2019s historic medieval square in the Netherlands in 2023. On the program is a mix of pop songs, show tunes, and classical favourites, delivered with Rieu\u2019s signature energy and style.<\/p>\n
